Due to a recent lost bag Amex Plat has been going so far out of there way to help me have my bag returned.
UA lost the bag and for 5 days did nothing in the form of contacting me etc. I was calling them, and finally got Amex involved as I purchased the flight with Amex. It was not until Amex phoned UA over and over again that UA began contacting me to retrieve my bag out of FLL.
Thanks to AMEX, since being a 1K with UA did not help at all in this situation.
If you are thinking of getting an Amex card, just for travel alone, they are worth it!!

it was probably cheaper to place a few phone calls than giving you the $ for the lost luggage ;)

A few phone calls? Lets try more like 8 days (7 different supervisors) hours of phone calls to: United 1K, UA baggage claim, FLL baggage claim, the baggage delivery service, the baggage guys cell phone, the other baggage guy who was about to pick up the bag cell phone, UA managers, OAK baggage claim supervisors, SFO baggage claim, RCC manager at DEN, DEN baggage claim, and the list goes on. Not to mention calling me 4 times per day to keep me updated on the status of my luggage.
If you add all that up it did cost Amex something, and lets not forget UA was spared from having to refund the cost of the baggage as well (although they took no part in the efforts until two days ago).
UPDATE: Amex phoned today to let me know UA has the bag in their possession at FLL and will send it back to me. Amex will phone again later today to let me know when to expect the bag.
Still waiting to hear from UA...not holding my breadth. Both the reps at AMEX and the UA manager who conversed today could not believe how this happened..With over 100 lines of info we all had a chuckle.
That Kenny Rogers song keeps going through my head about this situation:
"The Gambler" (lol) @:-)
**Doing pretty good as all my make-up, toiletries, expensive shoes- black tie gown and a weeks worth of clothes are in that bag :) The insurance could not come close to the value of what's in that bag. Learned a valuable lesson....Patience always wins in the end.

I have flight delay program and thier baggage program.
They said if the airlines lose my luggage I can be reimbursed up to $300 for hte immediate purchase of clothes and other toiletries that I need.
Delay insurance gives you some other stuff, but its 9.99 for each program and is good for peace of mind and mileage runs :)
