Anyone know of a laundrette near to the Christchurch Crowne Plaza?
Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Christchurch laundry?View Full Version : Christchurch laundry? NorthOrSouth Jan 6, 06, 12:11 pm Anyone know of a laundrette near to the Christchurch Crowne Plaza? number_6 Jan 11, 06, 10:22 am I don't think there is one within 2 or 3 blocks (it is a high rent area with tourist type stores). I wasn't specifically looking for it but did not notice anything like that. I'd guess that you'd have to go over by the university and it may be 10 blocks before you find a laundry. The hotel concierge should be able to find the closest one for you. Leumas Jan 11, 06, 11:36 am I don't know of one off hand, but I'm a rare visitor at best... However, I'd look at dry cleaners around town, there should be a few shops in town. They often do normal laundry. Their prices may be slightly cheaper than the hotel... Quokka Jan 12, 06, 9:00 pm The Crowne Plaza is fairly close to the Casino and there are a couple dry cleaners not too far from the casino. (I believe one is on Conference St). Also the Copthorne Durham is right across the street from the Crowne Plaza and I recall that it has coin operated machines, if the CP doesn't. ecaarch Jan 18, 06, 2:33 pm I just stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Christchurch and was surprised to find a small self-service laundry area on one of the lower floors (2nd or 3rd I think) NorthOrSouth Jan 19, 06, 7:12 am Thanks very much for all these responses. I emailled the CP but they didn't reply (never a great thing with a hotel so I hope the hotel is OK). tuapekastar Jan 19, 06, 8:23 am According to NZ Yellow Pages (www.yellowpages.co.nz, then search for laundrettes, Christchurch) there is one at 247 Armagh St...1 block south, then 4 blocks east from CP, at corner of Barbadoes St. And another in Barbadoes St. Though it sounds like there may be one in the hotel itself, so in that case, save your legs! Happy laundering. Cheers. ecaarch Jan 19, 06, 9:27 am Thanks very much for all these responses. I emailled the CP but they didn't reply (never a great thing with a hotel so I hope the hotel is OK). Actually, the hotel is very nice. It is a sorta early 80's type property but it backs up to a plaza that is directly on the river. The river in Christchurch is very beautiful and is flanked by a series of parks. You can walk almost everywhere in the city center in a few minutes. The hotel was spotless and the rooms large. The desk staff was courteous and efficient. The hotel was everything that I would expect from a CP property. I would def stay there again. number_6 Jan 19, 06, 10:49 am It is the nicest hotel in CHC (apart from some boutique B&Bs). It was originally built as showpiece architecture to revitalize the city (and was some other chain, maybe Regent?). The only drawback is the cost (bit expensive at times). The location really is the best for both tourist and business, though this city is nice and small enough that there are few bad locations. ecaarch Jan 20, 06, 4:17 pm I booked the CP thru the IC hotels website and got it for approx. $120US. That was at the upper end of my budget, but not too bad either. |
