Meet Dan Steinhardt—the 1K Global Traveler of the Year
United® and Global Traveler magazine sponsored the first ever 1K Global Traveler of the Year essay contest in the fall of 2005. After reviewing more than 3,000 entries, the editor of Global Traveler selected Mr. Dan Steinhardt as the 1K Global Traveler of the Year.
Mr. Steinhardt logged over 120,000 miles on United in 2005. As he travels around the world for business, Mr. Steinhardt makes sure to take time to enjoy his surroundings. As he wrote in his essay,
While thousands just like me operate on "business autopilot," making early-morning connections in time to deliver PowerPoint presentations before returning home on the next available flight, whenever possible I take a later flight. I reach for my digital camera and capture the beauty of everyday life around the world in scenes that many of my fellow travelers fail to recognize.

For opening his eyes—and our eyes—to the beauty in the world, United and Global Traveler were pleased to name Mr. Steinhardt the very first 1K Global Traveler of the Year.
Also, Mr. Scott Croft and Ms. Caroline Lim were named the two First Prize winners in the contest. Each has been awarded one case of United's award-winning wines—wines that won the Global Traveler "Wines on the Wing" competition.
