This coming spring I'll be in Singapore, and would like to visit Darwin using the new service on Tiger Airways. Has anyone here on this board used Tiger for that particular route? My concern is whether the flight actually departs more or less as scheduled, or suffers long delays (as many low cost carriers seem to do). Also, would anyone have information as to the financial stability of Tiger Airways? Thanks very much.

On the financial side of things, Tiger Airways is a subsidary of Singapore Airlines, so in that respect you couldn't ask for a much more solid base for an airline to be built on.

From what I've seen their ontime performance is pretty good overall, compared to its peers in the region - though given the time that the flight arrives in Darwin in the morning, not sure if that's a positive or negative! :D.

Thank you, GibSpmuh. It's encouraging to hear that their ontime performance is not horrible, and that they'll probably be around six months hence. Yes, the arrival time in Darwin is inconvenient, but their fare suits me better than the competitor's fare. Once again, thanks.

Lots of Darwin times are inconvenient!

I have flown out of there a couple of time to SYD recently and there is a BANK of Virgin Blue flights all leaving at the same time ... around 1am or 1.30am.

Booking a new Asian LCC 6 months out is always a risk. Paradise Airlines went bust a few weeks back leaving many ozzies in trouble.

Tiger Air isnt that new. I've seen it around in Singapore for quite a long time. Just the Darwin route is new for them I think.

Edited to add Tiger Air (http://www.tigerairways.com/about/facts-sheet.php) has been flying since September 2004.
