We checked in yesterday. Not impressed! The room we were given was for disabled access, which did not provide the type of bathroom we expected. We were told there were no other rooms. Of course we did not find this out until after we got to the room. Fortunately, Quiet Lion had given me the name of a casino host, who I called after we got to our room. The host told us to meet him at the VIP room and immediately got us an acceptable room. There were plenty of rooms available after all.

We woke up at around 6:30a this morning and found that there was no water in THEhotel. The entire tower, except for the first three floors was entirely without water. THEhotel refused to give us a time estimate on when the water would come on. All patrons were directed to THEspa for showers, etc., with the THEhotel offerring the THEspa passes for free  . We had already paid for a 3-day pass to THEspa, so now of course the visits there were overcrowded with all the hotel guests using the showers. There are three showers in THEspa on the men's section, so you can imagine the queue for the showers, toilets, etc. Ms. M8 says the queues in the women's section were even worse. One of the guests renamed THEhotel, THEGhetto. LMAO! :D

Water was back on about 3:30p. People here are ticked, as this really threw off plans and schedules. Ya know, I spent about half of last year in several West Africa nations with really poor infrastructure. I come to places like Las Vegas to make up for that. Funny thing is I have never lost water in any of the places I have been lodged in West Africa.

M8

P.S. We had lunch at the famous Lotus of Siam restaurant. We both found it to be mediocre. Nothing spectacular, just another Thai restaurant in a strip-mall :td: I don't know how this place got all those great reviews

do you recall the original room number?? i'm attending a wedding in LAS in February and would prefer to not deal with one of these rooms, and sort of figure that heading it off at check-in is likely to be a better solution than convincing them to switch us after we get to the room..

Hee-hee. But OTOH, the host you recommended is a great guy. We could use more people like that in the industry :)

If you mean for the disabled access, no. As for the water being out, it was for the entire hotel, except the first three floors. When you get here, just ensure at check-in that they give you the standard room.

BTW the rooms are very nice! There is a living room, a bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms, with one being very large. The decor is very nice. There are three plasma TV sets [one small one in the bathroom].

BTW, the internet connection in the rooms is not free. $12 per 24-hr period.

Well, time for breakfast and then it's to the poker tables :) I may post a more thorough review when we get home. Other than the water problem, this is a property worth staying at.

So you found LOS mediocre cest la vie
I guess it all depends on what you were expecting? Did you read any of the reviews by others ( say on like on Chowhound.com or e-gullet.com) or perhaps you though it moved from the strip-mall (for your benefit)

One of the overpriced LAS strip mega eateries its not, but its loved by people who actually like food (myself included)

Was this your first visit to a Thai restaurant?

The water issue could happen at any hotel so that shouldn't be a deterent to staying at THEhotel. Could have been worse, if you stayed at a property that had more than 1000 rooms (pretty much any other major Strip property) the showers would really have been crowded. :-)

Also, almost every Strip property charges $11.99 for high-speed internet. At least they have both wired and wifi in the rooms.

There are 1,117 suites here. You were saying? :D

Yes, the water issue could have happened anywhere. I guess the "deterrent" will be how the treatment goes at check-out for the inconvenience given to the hotel guests. Free use of THEspa is by no means any type of "comp" since running water is an expected service!

P.S. Just hit a royal flush diamonds on my Wilson simulator! All warmed up now to hit the tables ;)

I stayed at The Hotel right before Christmas and was not impressed by the Hotel staff at all. The check-in clerk (a girl named Lacey) was more interested in the look of my credit card than with checking me in and forgot to give me my coupon booklet that came as part of my room rate package. The Bathhouse spa was a mess, being much smaller than anticipated (only 3 showers) and very noisy as the staff was busy talking (in Spanish) about doing business in Mexico while the patrons were supposed to be relaxing in the whirlpools. And to top things off, the Steam Shower was broken but I wasn't told that until after paying the $30 fee and only as a passing interest by the locker room attendant. On the plus side, the rooms are very nice and quite possibly the best in Vegas for comfort and space.

I have over $100 of comps for Mandalay properties that I plan on NOT using there----hopefully the merger with the MGM will let me use them at Bellagio.

Wow. Tough experience. Although I suppose the water issue could have happened anywhere.

I stayed there for the first time last month and it was nice enough, but I wasn't terribly impressed. The rooms are very stylish, but I found them to be somewhat uncomfortable. Things like the sheets and towels seemed really cheap and uncomfortable, which I don't really expect in a place that markets itself as high end.

The previous time I had attempted to stay there, they were overbooked and offered me a "deluxe room". I'm not really sure why the place touts itself as "all suite", but yet has standard rooms that it does not actively market. (I was also offered the option to "downgrade" to one of these on my latest stay.) We went up, saw it, and immediately returned to the desk. It was styled similarly to the standard suites, but much smaller and on a low floor with a lousy view. Instead they offered a suite at MB with a $100/night rate reduction. Turned out to be quite the deal.

I just got back from a 3-day stay @ Bally's for NYE. The hotel is nothing special and there is a sincere lack of service. There is a ticket counter where you can have show reservations taken care of if you want to wait 1 hour in line but no conceirge to speak of. It was impossible to get anyone at the front desk at any hour and it was equally hard to find someone to speak to in the lobby. The hotel isn't anything special and I only stayed there because the rates were decent for NYE. I wouldn't stay again because of the lack of service.

Agreed! ^
LOS has provided me with some of the best Thai food out west without the huge $$. Of course I have a few Thai favorites in S. Florida that I rate slighter better but LOS is a must stop for me on every LAS visit I make!

And I certainly agree if you are not familair with Thai food this might be the cause of some "disappointment" as LOS is very authentic Thai. Makes me hungry just thinking of it!

I would guess not. MGM-Mirage has no banked comp account the way OneClub and Total Rewards (and the former Connection Card) do. It's entirely possible that $100 will disappear.

Good luck with that. Last time there was a merger it took years for them to get the comp system integrated.

MGM Mirage's Players Club also doesn't do the comp bank account. Not sure which way that's going to go when they merge the two systems.

It's too bad they didn't allow you to use the spa at MB. I believe it is a little bit bigger than the one at THEHotel and perhaps would have been less crowded too.

I have eaten at plenty of Thai restaurants here in the US, and probably even more in Thailand. How's that? Search some of my posts and you'll see I spend a lot of time in SE Asia.

I did read the recommendations here and at chowhound, which leads me to believe that perhaps some of the tastes of those who posted are not that well developed. Best Thai food I have had in the US is at Nit Noy's in Houston. LOS doesn't even come close!

She checked us in too. We came to the same conclusion. OTOH, Rose checked us out, and she was great. We were comp'd for the inconvenience, not only for the room, but also for other items that I will talk about later in my trip report.

For now, let me say that we will return to THEhotel.

You wasted it on a simulator?

The Wilson simulator is stand-alone software. It's an excellent tool for experienced and novice players. One can use a variety of standard lineups or design lineups. Most experienced players are familiar with the tool.

I did well in the poker room, and hit a jackpot of four-of-a-kind [8's]. I will post a more extensive trip report linked to my blog in a couple of days.

Cant say I am surprised at your usual snooty response.
Why in the world would I find the need to read more from a base so lacking humility?

I will gladly leave to floor to one whose obviously superior epicurian sensiblities I couldnt possibly complete with

Certainly not any snootier than asking me if it was my first visit to a Thai restaurant, eh? :p

So don't read anymore of my posts. Just use the ignore function, and you won't see me ;)

There's a great seafood restaurant at Mandalay Bay -- RM Seafood -- go to the second level for formal service -- prix fix menu is excellent.

We ate at the restaurant on the top floor of THEhotel. It was excellent! We were given a nice view overlooking the strip also. More later...
