Travel Technology - How do you get a new/rejuvenated battery for a Palm Tungsten C

My Palm Tungsten C, bought off of eBay a couple of years ago, is getting shorter in the battery-life department.

How does one go about getting the internal battery replaced? Is this a Palm proprietary thing, or shall I just start googling? Any sources you'd recommend?

How difficult is it to take it apart?

I'm interested too as I have a 2 year old Treo 600 with gradually fading battery life

Before you get yourself a new battery, see if doing an in-cradle/charger reset (which re-sets the battery) can help.

Simply, charge your Palm in its charger/cradle. While it's charging, do a soft reset which is poking a pin in the reset hole at the back of the unit. Let the Palm go through its splash logo screen. Don't press any buttons or touch the screen, or turn off the Palm. Let it charge for 3 - 4 hours after doing the reset without touching it.

Then, try and see if the battery is retaining a better charge. If not, check out my Palm blog posting on battery optimization (http://maceyr.blogspot.com/2005/11/putting-it-all-together-pt-8.html) which has links to previous posts where I've listed places to get Palm batteries and parts.

Sounds promising.

But the re-set hole is blocked when it's in the charger.

I ended up order a battery off of eBay. The price was right and the seller claims it's new. Any source for a diagram/instructions (and what kind of torx screwdriver is needed) about how to take the thing apart and put in the new one?

Tip the Palm out towards you a bit and yet keep the connection so that you can access the reset hole. Many Palm users are able to do so (including myself), so it's not "impossible". I'm not making this up, check out Palm's site on the in-cradle/charger reset (http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887#incradle). I have done the in-cradle reset a few times and have noticed a better battery performance after doing it.

Thanks, I'll play around tomorrow when I have more light.

Are these the same as the Tungsten C? (Mine doesn't look like Phillips head screws.) In any case it looks rather daunting!

Thanks for your help!

For some reason I thought you had a T3 (must have been another forum).

OK. So I got a battery for my Tungsten C. Anyone here (who knows what they're doing!) be willing for me to send my unit and battery to you for you to replace? :)

Check out Legodude522, a moderator at Palminfocenter. He's done a few Palm screens and I'm sure he's pretty proficient at opening up the Palm. He's done screens for a C, Zire 72.

Check out this posting from Palminfocenter forums (http://www.palminfocenter.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29420) and contact him there.

No problem. I'd be happy to.
