I plan to visit friends in HK in the summer time, I plan to stop over some Asia counties (Japan is too expensive for me). I just have three weeks(one week in HK). Any suggestions.. One in my way to Hongkong, one in my way back home.

Which countries and what airline I should look into ?

Thanks.

since japan is too expensive, the only other realistic option is to stopover in taiwan. both EVA and China Airlines have hubs in TPE. another crazy option might be to fly to singapore on SQ and then backtrack up to HK. yet another option is to fly ino beijing and then working your way south to HK.

Another option is to go to JFK and get the CX flight direct to HKG then onwards to say Singapore. You could probably get a JFK-Singapore ticket that enables you to route JFK-(transit)HKG-SIN-BKK-HKG-JFK

Another consideration for alternatives would be flying Thai Air's JFK-BKK nonstop, which offers Premium Economy (as does the Singapore Air nonstop from EWR). Thailand has a lot to offer the tourist (Bangkok-Phuket-Chiang Mai gives you a nice taste), and BKK is an excellent hub for touring other SE Asia countries. A 3-day sidetrip to Ankhor Wat (Siem Reap, Cambodia) is HIGHLY recommended.

HK is the pits of the earth in the summer but you probably don't have much choice in terms of time.

Best bet is to sign up as cybertraveler on the CX website, they have $899 specials that include economy class PLUS free hotel to HK. And for another $100, can make stops in other SE Asian destinations.
