Hi all!

First of all I want to wish you all the best for 2006!

Today I checked my transactions for the first time since a very long time, and I do have a question about the following: how is it possible I received 771 miles for trip AMS-BCN and only 192 for the return? Might that be because of the "E" instead of "Y" (and what do these letters mean?

Thanks for your help!

23/11/05 KL 1672 BCN AMS E 192
23/11/05 SPECIAL CLUB BONUS MILES 192
20/11/05 KL 1673 AMS BCN Y 771

This is an easy one...

Your flight AMS-BCN was not in the cheapest class, so you get 100% of the miles; your flight BCN-AMS was in the cheapest class, so you get 25% of the miles.

Special bonus is because of your level with FB.

Classes refer to fare classes: The lowest Take Off fare only earns 25% of the miles. Other fare classes earn 100%. Of course there are some exceptions, like Award tickets and Airmiles tickets (Dutch loyalty program you can use to buy cheaper KLM tickets).

Certain fares only give 25% of the miles flown. I believe "E" is one of them.

Notice that 25% of 771 is 192.75 (you'd think they'd have at least been "generous" and rounded it up to 193, though).

"E" and "Y" are fare classes.

Actually, FB quotes everything with 'Y' which earns 100%, so even K-class on NW will get you a Y on your FB statement. If the booking class earns you less than 100% they will print the actual class (e.g. V, E or whatever).

One tiny correction: E class DOES earn 100%. Only N and V earn 25%. I have only experience with N class tickets and these appeared as "E" on my account statement. Must be KLM logic.

I meant they only display letters other than Y if it does not earn 100%, e.g. V, E. At least in my statements everything else is Y.
