Just did a little intown getaway to the Downtown Los Angeles Marriott.
What a wonderful stay!
The Hotel was very full. The USC football team,ABC/ESPN sports fellas.several marching band families.I know almost nothing about sports and never watch fooball of my own accord but if there was a sports fan he would have been in heaven!
The hotel is older, built in the 70's as a Sheraton. Some of the hardware and bath fixtures are dated. But the room had some great old time touches(big closet-with a light fixture in it!Very deep tub and lots of real wood trim)that while dated are charming. The furnishing in my room were freash and in good condition. The bed was one of the great new beds and was fantastic. The room itself was very large-with a high celing and floor to celing double glaze windows. There is a safe in the room which I utilized ;)
I was upgraded(without asking :D )to the penthouse level, also given club access(again without asking for it :D )the breakfast in the club lounge was very nice-and I was alone most of the time, the coctail spread was great, the dessert spread-well it could use some work, but I was happy to partake of some delicious cookies.
My rate included dinner for two every night of my stay in their fancy restaurant 333.Well it was closed for the holidays and so I was given certs to the bar and grill.I was a little dissapointed-so they threw in a b'fast for two cert as well.
Moody's Bar and grill was sparsely populated both nights and my companion and I found a quiet corner, turned off the TV's in our area-I do not watch sports and did not need/want the distraction of the TV,and we were the only on in the cove of the dining room and thus did not take away from anyone elses fun.Our dinners were very good, and our service was very friendly.
Breakfast buffet was one of the better ones I have had at a Marriott property.
The staff was friendly and did their jobs very well.
Thank you to the great staff of The Downtown Los Angeles Marriott.

They upgraded me to the "Vista Suite" for 4 nights in October, which was totally nice.

Yes it is older, but they go out of their way to help their elite members.

It is great to see that your karmic tide is shifting for the positive!

Happy new years.

My wife, son, and I stayed there two years ago - we were checking him into USC (his freshman year), and were there early as he was a member of the marching band. :) Great memories of the hotel - pretty much the same story - upgraded to a large suite, excellent service, etc. The only thing I remember not enjoying was the parking rate at the hotel, but it was pretty much in line other downtown-area hotels.
