Hi everyone! I stumbled onto this thread, and hopefully you folks can help me. I'll be at the San Diego Convention Center for a week later this year. Any tips on good restaurants would be appreciated! Not picky, and it's on the company tab. Thanks for any help.

Right across the street from the Convention Center is The Gas Lamp Quarter. There are many great restaurants in that area. If you walk west there are several in Seaport Village as well. You won't go lacking anywhere in the Convention Center area. Are there any particular food venues that you prefer?

I'm willing to try anything! That said, I prefer seafood, Asian/Japanese, and steak. Thanks for your help.

Since it looks as if you're seeking restaurant recommendations and not seeking to join a particular get-together, I'll move this to the more appropriate Travel & Dining California forum for further member suggestions. Ocn Vw 1K, Co-Moderator, CommunityBuzz

Second the motion. You can eat lunch and dinner every day at different places. Here's a restaurant list. http://www.gaslamp.org/dine.php

Be sure and post when you're in town.

I ate downtown at Chive on Fourth this weekend and it was fantastic. Great service and great food! The Macaroni & Cheese with Alaskan crab appetizer was amazing! It's a bit pricey, but very worth it!

I would give a strong second to the recommendation for Chive. We had an outstanding and very interesting meal.

For what it's worth, I posted my take on the best bang for the buck, or value restaurants in San Diego here - http://flyertalk.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4374262&postcount=12 - most of them are out of the downtown area, and none are exactly haute cuisine, but all are excellent values.

If you are on an expense account, the Gaslamp has dozens of great restaurants.

One of the best restaurants in San Diego opened 6 or so months ago. It is Island Prime, on Harbor Island Drive across Harbor Drive from the San Diego Airport. It has a great patio for lunch and a wonderful dinner restaurant. Top notch food and unmatched views, since it looks across the harbor at downtown San Diego. Do not eat at Seaport Village, which has no good restaurants. Sally's, at the Manchester Hyatt, has a nice location on the water, next to a marina. It is right next to Seaport Village.

Not too far from the Convo Center is Horton Plaza. Yes, it's a "mall," but it's a nice one, and there is an excellent restaurant on the top floor called Napa Valley Grille. The exec. chef (Cristopher K.) is a friend, and the food and wine list are excellent. After about 30 seconds, you'll forget you had to walk through the mall to get there. I'd give it 4 or 4.5 :-: s

If you want seafood, instead of going to one of the Seaport Village restaurants, I'd heartily recommend The Fish Market on Harbor Drive, just north of Seaport. Downstairs you'll find fresh, no-frills seafood in a fun, casual atmosphere with a great view. Upstairs is more formal and pricey. No reservations accepted downstairs. http://thefishmarket.com/locations_details.asp?id=6 After living 10 years in San Diego, this was our standby take-the-out-of-town-visitors-to-get-seafood restaurant. I went back last weekend and nothing's changed.

Cafe Sevilla in the Gaslamp is wonderful, although it's been a couple of years since I've been there. Try to catch the flamenco dancing. http://www.cafesevilla.com/SanDiego/

Croce's, also in the Gaslamp, has live jazz. http://www.croces.com/

The Gaslamp has every imaginable kind of food; just go strolling and see what catches your eye and your nose.

You can also take the ferry from downtown (Harbor and Broadway-ish) to Coronado. There are a few bayside restaurants right there at the ferry landing with a killer view of downtown, my favorite being Il Fornaio. http://www.ilfornaio.com/?page=138&restaurant_id=3146

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Since it's on the company's dime, I can't wait to try them all!

Taking 4 teenagers to San Diego for a one night stop on a SoCal trip. Staying at Hilton in Gaslamp--any suggestions for a place teens would like (within walking distance)?

Thx

ThxJust wander through Gaslamp and look at the menus. THere's many, many choices. The wandering is fun, too. :)

I personally would avoid the places where the proprietors try to draw you in... to me, it means people aren't going in willingly, and that's not a good thing.

I ate at La Scala yesterday and had terrific homemade pasta.
