Planning trip for 14-17 April as a long weekend in LaJolla.

Would like hotel recommendations for LaJolla. I need a beach view, the rooms have to be soundproof, and if the hotel has a spa, so much the better.

How's the water at that time of year. I haven't done a CA beach since I lived there in the 70's. I remember the water always being cold, we will have 1/2 wet suits.

Thanks in advance,

M8

Do you need to be downtown? If so, La Valencia is probably your best bet for a sea view and it sounds as if you would prefer the "new" rooms out back to the traditional ones in the original building. The Parisi is across the street, but IIRC I do not think you can see the water as it is a low rise.

To be right on the water, you may want to check out the La Jolla Beach and Tennis club, about 5 mins. from town. I think most if not all of the rooms are efficiency-style, and I have enjoyed my few stays there.

Another very high end option is The Lodge at Torrey Pines, which is a few miles further from town.

I think the water will be in the low 60s.

As you recall from the 70s, the water will be cold. Heck, I live at the beach & I don't go in until summer's well underway.

I'm trying to remember the hotel in LaJolla that meets your specs; can't remember if it's LaValencia or not. It's been a while since I've been downtown LaJ.

Enjoy your trip. Cheers.

Edited to add: tdo-ca makes some good recommendations. I also just emailed a friend of mine who owned a home in LaJolla (sold it a year ago for sev mill & moved to Lake Las Vegas, where he built a 6,000ft home) & asked him for his recommendations. Will post when he replies; might match the other recs, but will let you know.

Here's input from Tony who used to live downtown LaJolla...

"The La Valencia is the Grand Dame of hotels in La Jolla - Old, elegant, and spectacular ocean views. Located on Prospect Place, in the heart of the shopping, dining areas of the village http://www.lavalencia.com/

The Hotel Parisi is a much newer, more contemporary, 'Fung Shui' designed hotel, with a spa. Small and elegant, it is also well located in the village. http://www.hotelparisi.com/about-hotel-parisi.html "

Cheers.

Lodge at Torrey Pines is the place to stay -- its about a 15 minute drive from La Jolla proper though -- but there's a "nice" golf course attached to it. :) The lodge also has a great restaurant inside....

There's the Estancia Resort and spa, it's just up the road from the Lodge. Had business meeting there...probably meets all of your criteria.

Just thought of the L'Auberge in Del Mar. Right off the beach...great restaurant...great spa...not exactly La Jolla, bu real close...might be a nice secondary consideration. Plus Del Mar is not quite as commercial as La Jolla has gotten.
