MilesBuzz! - cheapest ways to accrue miles on a credit card?
I'm trying to figure out cheap ways to accrue mileage by buying cash-like instruments with credit cards. For instace, for a $15 service fee, you can buy an AMEX gift card. If you bouth, say, a $2000 gift card (I forget what the limit is - maybe 2500 or so), the cost would be 3/4 cent/mile. But, that card would also end up charging you $2.50 per atm withdrawal (and this could end up being up to $4/withdrawal (if you figure in anoth $1.50 for the atm owner's fee), with a maximum withdrawal of $400. This would add another 1 cent/mile, bringing the total cost to 1.75 cents/mile.
Are there any cheaper ways to do something like this?

Because this sort of activity is a big loser for the credit card company, they've plugged up the holes pretty well. There are sometimes bonus opportunities that make it worth it, like the Delta 2500 mile bonus (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=475513).
Amex will refuse to sell you more gift cards/travelers check cards if you're churning for miles.

A much better deal is to just get multiple credit cards, if your credit history will support it. The initial bonus on each card can be quite substantial. As an example, last year I obtained 2 UA cards and collected bonuses of 17500 and 20000 miles, respectively, for a total cost of $120.
And according to several posts one could repeat this periodically if they are not concerned about their FICO score about cancelling cards.
