Any nice beaches/islands that are good to visit in asia during august? Possibly going to BKK and SIN as you may have seen in other thread. Any good places to go near there that time of the year? Singapore have good beaches? Or is august just lost cause for beaching it? Bangkok and SIN should be nice though? Right?

Can't help with the beaches, but BKK and SIN in August are very hot and humid. Singapore especially is like being in a sauna. It's manageable, but you need to be prepared for it. The good thing is that most of the buildings are airconed.

I would concur about the heat in BKK and SIN in Aug. It is also the monsoon season. On the other hand , consider Indonesia- Bali/Lombok. The monsoon season is at another time of year and Aug is generally dry. Also the cultural attractions in Bali are outstanding . Thailand also has beautiful beaches. The monsoon is usually on the Andaman Sea coast in Aug. (ie Phuket) whereas I believe the Gulf of Thailand coast is drier.

What airlines have decent airfare to Bali? Would you think Bali and BKK would be best or SIN and Bali?

I'll be in Bali in August. I think it'll be great. I've heard there isn't much to see in SIN, other than a clean city. I've been to BKK and it's certainly an interesting experience (obviously no beaches though).

Do these cities sound good then for a first trip? Or are there better more interesting cities to visit? Just want this to be a fun worth while trip.

In August I'd go for East Coast Malaysia all the way -- Perhentians, Redang and Tioman are all at their best. Koh Samui up Thailand way would also be good. All except the first have direct flights from Singapore (Berjaya, Berjaya and Bangkok Air, respectively), or you can save a few pennies and bus/train & ferry it instead.

Singapore's beaches are, in a word, unspectacular. The locals escape to Bintan and Batam (30-45 minutes by ferry), but any of the above would be much nicer.

definitely BKK and DPS (Bali). In Bali if you want the crowd deifinitely stay in Kuta beach but if you want more peace and quiet then either Legian or Jimbaran. Nusa Dua is too pricey.

I agree with JPATOKAL. I have been to Redang and it is totally an excellent choice! Do go for Lang Tengah as well! Redang has its own flight of Berjaya Air direct to the island itself.

Malysia is a good choice! I was there for a few days and I had a good time.

Also, if your looking for an alternative, you should check out Cambodia, and the Sokha Beach there, very nice, and they have a nice resort hotel, or if your on a budget there are plenty of decent hotels there. It is in Sihanoukville, I believe, also many tourists there.

And if you do decide to visit Cambodia, Siem Reap is a must, it has alot of attractions, many tourists and places to stay and eat. There is this really good restaurant there... mmmm.
