Useful vantage point site (http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/nye/VantagePoints/Default.html) to visit.
My personal preferences would be (22) and (23) but most spots will be child-friendly. Make sure you get in early ie. by mid-morning on New Year's eve, to ensure you can claim a good spot. I strongly suggest lots of liquids and SPF30 in abundance to ensure they survive in good humour.
