My wife wants to go this restaurant. Is is it good and would you recommend it? Also how far off the strip is it?

Thanks!

Lotus of Siam is terrific. It is excellent and interesting Thai food, with an emphasis on northern Thai. It has a nice wine list as well. It is not too far off the Strip; with a rental car it should take 15-20 minutes, depending on where you start. I would be hesitant about a cab, just cause they would have to call you a cab to return to your hotel. It is not in a great neighborhood, but do not let that put you off. If you like Thai food it is a must stop.

I have been there several times in the past year and it has not failed to provide both good authentic Thai food and good service. I have seen many celebs there and on my last visit the Hon. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and wife were seated next to us and local folks were giving him the "thumbless thumbs up" (as a result of his "cut of their thumbs" comment) and Ben Affleck and party were dinning in the semi private room upfront.

Lotus of Siam is located in the Commercial Shopping Center just off of Sahara and Maryland Pkwy that is dominated by Asian eating establishments and gay bars and the Vegas Gay Community Center. Definitely off the beaten path but only a few minutes by car or cab from the central strip area.

Gourmet Mag named them the best Thai in the country, and I would humbly NOT agree as there are a few in South Florida alone I consider significantly better, still Lotus of Siam is the best I have encountered in Nevada and your almost assured a celebrity sighting to boot.

Good Luck!

It's excellent & very famous among foodies - worth the trip & go with as many people as possible. Let them rec the wine & one of my favs is the crispy rice sausage appetizer!

I dine there frequently-- at least once on every trip to Las Vegas. My favorite dish is the Som Tum (green papaya salad). The wine list is great and really adds to the experience.

Great advice - and... besides searching for "Lotus of Siam," also search for "LOS" - it is so well known & discussed for years most of us "Chowhounders" have simply shortened it to this - we all know what we're talking about if on the Southwest Board!

Thanks for the advice we went and had a great time. The food was really good, but the way my wife was building the place up I thought it would be better. Still it was very good and we had no complaints.

We ate there today. We found it mediocre. Just another Thai restaurant in a strip-mall. Much ado about nothing.

I'm looking forward to trying LOS. It will be my first Thai experience. I don't mind the location being in a stirp mall, but would like to know if there is a certain dish to be sure to try. Any suggestions for a first timer??

I've eaten there a few times, and had the same experience. However, I must admit that I've only eaten there for lunch, and then just had the lunch buffet. Currently, my favorite Las Vegas Thai restaurant is Archi's Thai Food, on W Flamingo, just west of Jones.

Do a search on Chowhound.com - you'll come up with lots of recs. Esp. the crispy rice pork sausage appetizer! Since it's you're 1st Thai, I'd also try the Satay, a staple of Thai cuisine & the sticky rice Mango dessert - yummm!!!

We ate there on 2 Jan.

1. No cold Spring Rolls on the menu. This is a must at any Thai restaurant. They only offer fried ones.
2. Chicken Satay - very dry.
3. Tom Yon soup - too much tomato.
4. Noodles - they were clumping together. Not a good sign of preparation.
5. The only Asian tea offerred was Jasmine tea. No variety.
6. Restaurant was not very clean.
