Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - LY Summer Award Strategy

My goal is to do the following:

2 Adults TLV-USA June 30-July 16/17
2 Children TLV-USA June 30 - August 30/31

During the trip I'll need to get everyone to LAX from PIT for a few days. I should be able to get two of the four there and back with AAdvantage points.

Currently I have enough points for 2 tickets TLV-NYC (1400x2) By departure there should be enough points for at least one more ticket.

1) Is it possible to reserve an LY award before you have the full points but ticket it once you have the points?

2) Is there a points benefit to doing an open-jaw say landing in LA and flying back from EWR?

3) Any way to get cheap domestic US tickets in conjunction with my award or paid LY tickets? Do they still do the VUSA tickets?

4) Anything else I'm not thinking about?

Sorry but only question I know the answer to here is your first…
Not a problem at all, as when you call ElAl reservation just book a seat and they will give you a ticketing date which should be about a week prior to departure.
They do not check if you have the point’s needed at this stage, only when they need to issue the ticket.
In fact you don’t even have to give them your Matmid number at this point.
