There was a fire at the Kuala Lumpur Hilton (under construction as is its siamese twin Le Meridien). No news as to whether this will set back opening.

Hi,

Does anyone know the opening date for the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, I have 3 nights in KL in late April, and I'd much prefer to stay there than at Petaling Jaya again.

The Hilton web page for this hotel still says July...I have a trip in late June-early July so I am keenly watching this one also...

Hi -

Has anyone been successful in getting a great room deal at the new Hilton KL.

Its website states a deal of MYR 265 ++ (approx US 72) but I'm sure it can be beat. Really don't want to miss out on soft-launches or other deals like I did with Conrad Bali.

And from what I can see on its website - it sure looks a lot like the Conrad Bangkok (one of my most beloved city hotels) with a glass bathroom wall. But even better! It also comes with 2 plasma TVs, one in the bathroom! Check out -

http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=KULHIHI

If anyone has any word on this property, pls do share. Thanks :D

I see that the special opening rate includes triple HHonors points. Hotel sure looks nice, but doesn't open until September 22nd. This opening date has already been put back a few times so I wonder how accurate it is. Stayed at the old Hilton KL a few years ago before it changed to the Mutiara and got a very cheap rate of about $45 and hotel was very central in a great location. Hotel itself was disappointing and in need of refurbishment. The opening price of $72 for the new hotel looks a pretty good offer to me.

stayed at the old kl hilton, the lounge and spread was excellent, staff service was superb, the pool was excellent, but the hotel was worn and feeling its age. great location.

the new kl hilton, i went past about 8 wks ago, beautiful building part of the KL sentral complx, the problem is the location, it isn't great, and therefore really can't compete with it's city proper upper class hotels (ie marriott, ritz carlton, regent), hence the pricing i suspect. but being near kl sentral, there is easy access to public transport and cabs are cheap in kl.

price is actually a little richer (quite a bit) than it's nearby sister hotel, the pj hilton. i'm sure i'll stay at this hotel later this year, looking forward to it.

As I look out of my windows, I could see that the letters "H" and "i" has been erected on top of the building. I am sure they will manage to put up the remaining letters "l","t","o","n" and the Hilton logo before Sepember 22nd :) .

Does anyone in the KL area have a firm update on the opening date for the KL Hilton? Looking on the website, they're now accepting reservations from the 22nd of September, so one would think it's almost complete, but would be good to hear from someone that might have cast an eye over it (and as I gaze out my window at work at the disaster that has been the Sydney Hilton renovation I certainly know that timeframes can keep on slipping :D ). I'll be in KL in late October, and hopefully it'll be ready then (there's certainly some nice rates to be had anyway - from RM165, no complaints about that! :) )

Well, I hope I will be their first guest checking in as I have reservation with them for one night on their grand opening day. Yes, they do have their promotion rate of RM165/++, but it is prepaid, and don't forget they also do have a promotion rate of 3X HHonors points or Airline miles with rates starting at RM265/++.

Want to treat my mom, my sister and her two kids to a weekend stay at the Hilton in Kuala Lumpur. They'll be attending my cousin's wedding. I am Honors Gold and I know there's a chance of an upgrade to an Exec Floor room (space permitting).

But my questions are:

(1) shld i get two standard rooms or a one/two-bedroom suite for the party of four. I need space for two adults and two adorable brats (oxymoron i know).

(1) has anyone stayed in a one/two bedroom suite at this property? Any comments?

(2) do u think I can book a one-bedroom and request an upgrade to a two-bedroom as Gold member?

American Express has a stay one night, get another night free promo, which makes getting a suite very attractive. Appreciate all comments.

The upgrade applies if you (or your spouse on a mutual account) are staying, not for people you make reservations for. Since it looks like you won't be there, this means no upgrade and none of the Gold privileges would apply.

Looks like my travel schedule allows me to join them, so will get a second room. Will the upgrade then only apply to my room or the other room as well?

I called Hilton Kuala Lumpur to check on the room rates. Front desk staff was incompetent and displayed lack of knowledge on different prices and room types. Not a good start.

I stayed at the one bedroom suite last week. The room size is about average. The bedding is pretty comfortable. Room service is prompt. I would suggest that you book the two bedroom suite if you are concerned about the space.

At the Hilton London Park Lane I got 2 rooms on awards. One for myself (Diamond) and one for my sister (no status). They upgraded both rooms to the executive floor with all Diamond ammenities for both of us except the in room water and chocolate, I got but she did not. We both had lounge access and breakfast. And this was during the London Marathon.

Don't know if Hilton KL will do this though.

Staying at KUL Hilton next week and these rooms are the same rate. The Executive plus rate states lounge access but the suite does not. Anytime I've ever had a suite though, lounge access was included. Any advice on which room to book? The suite would be nice but lounge access is more important to me. Thanks in advance.

Just received the latest newsletter "HHonors Traveller" and there is a segment on the KL Hilton.

Apparently the first guest who checked-in on 22nd September 2004 received 250,000 HHonors bonus points as a welcome present !! The guest , a Mr Gerry Driscoll got married at the old KL Hilton 25 years ago and he had more than a hundred stays there.

Being a Category 1 hotel, Mr Driscoll could have 25 award nights at the new KL Hilton with the bonus points, if he chooses to use it all there. Not a bad reward for having a hundred plus stays at the old KL Hilton !

Looks like Mr Driscoll beat our FlyerTalker "Danial" (who posted a very extensive report on his stay there on the same day) for being the first guest to check-in :D .

I spent the month of April there. "Nice" is an understatement. The lounge was great. The pool was beautiful. The gym had everything you could want. My only complaints are that the food was a little pricey and the location was a little inconvienent (i.e. nothing within walking distance). Of course I'm basing this on a prior month long stay at the JW Marriott in KL.

I have seen some good reviews of the Hilton KL on this board, and the rates seem good as well, but prior to making a reservation I have a question regarding the room types.

I see rates for:

Deluxe room
Deluxe plus
Executive room
Executive plus
Innovative suite

Would a suite get access to the executive floor? Is there any difference between deluxe and executive other than the lounge access?

Also, does the hotel give upgrades and lounge access to HHonors Gold members on a regular basis, or do I need to get an executive room to be resonably sure to get access to the lounge?

Since the prices are so resonable I am probably going to get either an executive plus or a suite, but I would not like to get the suite if I would then be blocked from the lounge.

Any other helpful hints prior to making my reservation?

We are heading there soon, and Exec Level is a must for us. There have been some reports of getting upgrades due to elite level or being able to pay for one at checkin.

Based on an email from the hotel, here is the skinny. Notice that the first few specifically do NOT mention exec level.

Hilton Innovation Room
- Room size range from 38 to 44 sqm

Hilton Grand Room
- Room size range from 48 to 53 sqm

Hilton Innovation Suite
- Room size is 86 sqm
- 2 sets of 42' plasma TV one in living room and one in bedroom

Hilton Executive
- Room size range from 38 - 44 sqm
Including Executive Lounge Benefits for 2 people

Hilton Grand Executive Room
- Room size range from 48 - 60 sqm
(Including Executive Lounge Benefits for 2 people)

Hilton Grand Executive Plus Room
- Room size range from 48 - 60 sqm
(Including Executive Lounge Benefits for 2 people)
- Comes with private Mini Garden

Hilton Grand Executive Suite
- Room size is 86 sqm
(Including Executive Lounge Benefits for 2 people)
- 2 sets of 42' plasma TV one in living room and one in bedroom

If you do a search, you will find a few other threads that talk about this property.

I stayed there for 20+ nights in April. Although I am Diamond, I was traveling with some Golds. All of them got lounge access. I'm not sure if any of us received an upgraded room, but the rooms were all nice, I can't imagine what an upgrade would have been like. We all booked standard rooms. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. The lounge staff were friendly. The food at breakfast and evening reception was fantastic. If you have any other questions just ask.

I stayed there last month. Booked the Innovation standard room. Went to the HHonours desk to check in, as it was pretty early (around 10am), staff told me they could either give me a room upgrade or access to the lounge. Told them I much rather have the lounge access and didn't need a room till later as I had an early morning meeting to go to. When I came back in the evening to collect the room, was upgraded to a the Innovation suite and was also given lounge access. :D

Thanks everyone, I think I have received answers to all my questions now. Seems like a suite does not automatically mean lounge access, and that upgrades are likely although they are as always never a guarantee. Now I just have to choose if I should gamble on the upgrade or just go ahead and pay for an exec level room. For the 5-night stay I am looking at the cheapest rooms are at 84USD per night, while an exec room is at 123USD. Exec plus and non-exec suite are both at 132USD (taxes not included).

As a Gold, I was told either lounge access or room upgrade that was approx 20% larger. This probably is the minimum you should get as gold/diamond.

I have no experience with a Regent Studio suite, but I can highly recommend the Innovative suite. It has a nice living room/dining room area and a corridor leading to the bedroom/bathroom area. The bedroom and bathroom was separated by a sliding wall. The suite is very modern, a little like a W Hotel. Great executive lounge as well.

[QUOTE=tenmoc]I asked because I have heard some suites at Hiltons do not always give lounge access. So I wanted to experience the lounge more than the suite if it was either or.

As a HH Diamond, you're sure to receive lounge access at KL Hilton. I was given lounge access as a HH Gold when I stayed there last February. I didn't even have to ask. At check-in, you'll be handed a welcome letter inviting you to the breakfast and light dinner buffets in the lounge, and you'll receive some additional benefits such as free laundry service on some items (I think). The view from the lounge is not to be missed. The best thing about KL Hilton is that it's literally across the street from the KL Central train station. So, your best means of transportation to and from the airport is to take the KLIA Express ($10 one way) which traves directly to the central station. So, you'll basically get directly from the airport to the hotel. ^

Enjoy your trip.

My past several experience is that you book the cheap Exe. Room and they will upgrade you to the executive plus or innovative suite, guaranteed. But, if you get a cheaper room...now that is a little ify. But like everyone says, you will get the lounge access.

I would get the exe. room, and just call ahead and make sure that you secured the upgrade.

The Kuala Lumpur Hilton is now a Category 5.

Back in June it was changed from Category 1 to Category 3, but when was it re-raised to Category 5. And, on what basis since Deluxe rooms are still $120 and suites are $190?

Were any other properties raised without notice?

There seems to be NO direct correlation between room price and category level at any hilton chain.

DoubleJ

I would consider this category increase to be a moot point as I would prefer to pay the cash at these room rates than to waste the points for an award (whether Cat 3 or Cat 5).

You indicate that you are SPG Gold. The Le Meridien is right next door to the Hilton and it's a level 1 hotel (2,000 to 3,000 points for a free night). Then there's the Westin and Sheraton in KL, both level 2 hotels (3,000 to 4,000 points for a free night).

I've stayed at both the Le Meridien and Hilton in KL. I prefer Le Meridien; it feels more like a luxury hotel and less like a W than the Hilton which is what I like.

I would just pay at those rates. In general hotels in Malaysia are rather cheap and I would typically just pay those rates unless the hotel is in the lowest category.

I also stayed on both as HH Diamond and SPG Gold. Le Meridien had a room almost size of Hilton executive floor bathroom, room rate higher than Hilton and extra charge for a very cold and unimpressive lounge.

Glad I spent only one night there. Hilton KL has on the other hand never disappointed me.

Was upgraded to large suite and Executive Lounge on both occasions as a Diamond - had to wait though for the room as check in at 11am.

Stayed at the Sheraton in the city as a SPG Gold - awful dated room, noisy and vile small hot Lounge - have been promised comped room next visit !

So, what when they give me one of the 86sqm lifestyle suites? Due to the description, should be the same as the 86sqm grand executive but for double the price?
Has anyone experience with that???

Thank you for every advice

As i expected....no one really knows. even at the hotel itself. asked them the same question and did not get an answer for days now. normally they respond within one single day !
i switched my reservation to a grand executive suite, which is half the price
with same equipment and size ;-)

Just checked in.
Toiletries are now Crabtree & Evelyn. :)
Nice change from the 'generic' green tea scented products when last I stayed here in Apr.

Hello,

Does any know if the Hilton Kuala Lumpur is participating in the scam du jour, namely dynamic currency conversion? If so, is it a hassle to convince them to bill in Ringgit?

Thanks.

The last time I was there, they billed in rm. My two upcoming reservations are priced in rm.
Why would you expect them to use the currency conversion scam since they are not quoting in dollars? I book in local currency whenever possible to eliminate this problem. The problem you are referring to is much more prevalent in Thailand (or Argentina) where often the price is in dollars, converted to baht (or pesos) at an artifiically low rate posted at the check-in desk and than reconverted back by the credit card company. Malaysia tends to use its national currency directly on hotel portfolios.

Actually, what you describe is a double scam. Even if booking in local currency, you can be subject to dynamic currency conversion where the bill, as a "convenience" to you, is converted it to dollars (at an unfavorable rate, of course).

Many stores in Europe where they are clearly selling in pounds or euros will try to convert the bill to dollars, if the credit card is US based.

Good to hear that the Hilton Kuala Lumpur does not try this, at least as of your last stay.

Westin Chosun in Seoul did that to me, eventhough I am not even american. My credit card company then converted it back to my local currency, so its 2X conversion :(

Maybe you should call the hotels and enlighten us?

Excellent idea. Should I also call the Kuala Lumpur Taxi Alliance and ask whether they have honest, reputable drivers or scam artists? Is that the best way to find out the truth?

Yes, I started three threads. For three different hotel chains in three different countries. I need all answers to all three.

Taxis in KL are some of the worst in respect to wanting to rip you off, especially if you are somewhere where it is difficult to find one or there are limited other transport options. That said, the taxis from the Hilton and LeMeridien are very good and can be called to pick one up on return.

The country code for Malaysia is 60, for Thailand 66, buy a Costco telephone card and the answers to your questions are cheap.

Frankly, 3 threads with the same question is over-the-top. Enuf said. No further responses necessary.

Does anyone have e-mail contact information for the hotel? Perhaps the concirege or executive lounge \. Cannot find anything on the Hilton web site or the pre-arrival e-mail.

I want to pre-arrange as much as possible with respect to our room, and get some info on a private tour contact.

I am in the executive lounge of the Hilton KL right now. I just requested contact information and was given a business card with this information:

Asman Abd. Rashid
Executive Lounge Assistant Manager

Was in KL a week ago. Upgraded from lowest flexible rate to Executive Floor a really nice property. The exec lounge is one of the better Hilton ones I have experienced all there in the same class as Conrad BKK...Had dinner @ Seneses restaurant...recommended...

Thanks so much, LarryU. Any advice for a fellow Diamond? I see that the Hilton is sold out this weekend when we will be there....

I guess my advice would be to stay somewhere else. :D A diamond force is an option but I personally have never availed myself of it because I tend to find rack rates profoundly distasteful.

If Hilton is not your only frequent guest program, there are numerous very nice hotels in KL. In fact, I have already checked out of the Hilton and am in the club lounge of the adjoining Le Meridien property right now. Although I think the Hilton is a better run property, having these two hotels situated next to one another sure does facilitate mattress runs.

Anyway, if you are currently only a Hilton person, why not get comped to SPG platinum and stay in the Le Meridien, the Westin or the Imperial (aka Sheraton)? I was wandering around there earlier today and the Indonesian concierge manager is quite stunning.

Thanks so much, LarryU. Any advice for a fellow Diamond? I see that the Hilton is sold out this weekend when we will be there....

I saw upstream a number of posts from folks who had had booked innovation suites - but no reports after their stays. Are they worth a $100 upcharge?

Apologies for not being clear--I have a confirmed reservation at the Hilton this weekend, and noticed that only Diamond force is available when I checked that my rate is still the best.

I had originally booked into the JW Marriott which is apparently perfectly located in the central area. But changed my mind when I saw Tripadvisor reviews suggesting JW Marriott is losing its luster, whereas the Hilton is fabulous and new....

As an aside--have not had any response to the e-mail I sent over 24 hours ago using the Executive Club concierge address your provided.

I would have been happy to try to get some additional contact information for you but I checked out of the Hilton KL on Monday. I'm now at the Le Meridien in Kota Kinabalu, another very nice property. Incidentally, the staff here are amongst the nicest I have ever encountered.

I'm at the Hilton KL right now. I had booked a Grand Executive Suite. When I checked in, I inquired about an upgrade to a Lifestyle Suite, and was told that they would have to talk to the manager about it. Meanwhile, they checked me into the Grand Executive Suite (xx07 room). It was as described in an earlier post.

An hour later, I received a phone call from the front desk telling me that they'd make a one time exception and upgrade me to a Lifestyle Suite. It was a (xx07) room too, but when I walked in, it was about 75% larger than the Executive Suite. They may have just combined an Executive Suite with a standard room spacewise.

You have a desk area, large living area with two couches and TV. Then there's the bedroom, with a walkway behind it containing the closets. The bathroom has a large tub, stall shower with a waterfall showerhead, and two sinks. Amenities are Crabtree and Evelyn.

Tried searching/googling, but can't seem to find which floors have these suites.

Any info is appreciated.
