 We are flying from GIG-IGU with a connection in CWB on Jan 2, 2006 then on Jan 3, 2006 from IGU to EZE with a connection in GRU. with all segments on RG. A horribly complicated itinerary provided to us by UA. My concern is this... Anyone know the inner workings to the RG Bankruptcy. Any chance they will either stop flying, drop routes out of no where.... What can we expect from them customer service wise for re-accommodation? I have already contacted UA and know what to do to ultimately protect the rest of our UA segments if we don't fly the RG segments, but.... I really don't want to be in a Brazillian airport fighting for a flight if it is not necessary....

It was on most of the news services yesterday. And from the way the articles read, this has been going on for quite some time.

Yes, RG has been in bankruptcy protection for some time now. No major worries for trips in Jan 2006.

I just phoned a RG Rep. He told me there is no reason to worry. They will even add some further routes to their network.

On the related note, I bought a Varig ticket from GIG-GRU for early March. If something does go wrong... what are my other options?

Bus, train?

C'mon...

If/When RG goes bankrupt there are lots of air options for you to choose from. They've got but 24% of the air traffic... :)

PS - Read yesterday that OceanAir is planning to offer Rio-Sao Paulo for 100 Reais (40 USD) one way.

pb9997, is oceanair from GRU-GIG or the city airports? I still have never been to Rio; TAM/ RG etc was going to charge me $400 US or something like that from the city airports! And to think that if I had booked in advance on my RG internet fare I could have stopped over in Rio for free.....

I believe OceanAir operates from city (CGH-SDU) airports...

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that there are no other flying options.

I just operate under the US airline rules. My question was more towards the possibility of Varig going under in the last minute, and automatically I'm thinking a last minute airline ticket will be expensive.
