Asia - ex-SHA fares are expensive

I think the trend has lasted long enough to move it from the "phenomenon" to "fact" category. We flew up this week for Y1020 and are going down tomorrow for Y280. While it's possible to hack away at that Y1020 by searching a lot, ex-SHA is still a tough market.

So, when planning your China trips, I suggest you start in Beijing and wind up in Shanghai, rather than the reverse. If you must do things the other way around, consider taking the train (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=438631).

We ended up paying appr $150 one way ex SHA. But it was fun on 747 that we deplaned using stairs :eek: away from the gate.
