Going to be flying on from there to Bora Bora but we have 40 kgs luggage between the two of us and are only allowed 10 Kg each. Coming from traveling around New zealand so will have to take the luggage with us! The other option would be to leave it behind in AKL airport but I will be coming in from a connecting flight from Christchurch so will have to take luggage out and re-check it in which will be a hassle.
So like the title says?? I hope there are some? Please help? I am landing in PPT at 00:05 and leave at 10ish in the morning for Bora Bora before coiming back and spending 4 nights in PPT.

Leaving it at AKL might be easier and cheaper (nothing is cheap or easy at PPT). Also you would not have to pass through the sometimes rigorous French customs check at PPT. There is a left luggage facility in the parking lot outside of the terminal at PPT but it may not be open during the hours that you are at the airport. See http://www.papeete.com/airport.html

I only have 1.5 hrs transfer time at AKL after flying in from Christchurch so won't have much time. Besides I need luggage in PPT as i will be there for 5 days too.
Thanks for your help.

As you are going to be staying in Papeete and have a night there before going to Bora Bora why don't you leave your luggage with the hotel there. We have done that on a few occasions in different parts of the world. Enjoy your stay - we were in Tahiti in 1986 on RTW and loved it.

Yeah I will be staying at the Sofitel, flying the next morning at 10ish to Bora Bora and then after 5 nights will be staying at the Sheraton in Tahiti. Do you think the sofitel will allow us to leave our luggage behind with them? Even if it is for a charge?
What is everyone else experiance in this? We are allowed to fly into Tahiti with 20kgs but only 10kgs ahead from there? I am not complaining as i realise it must be a small plane but what dfoes everyone else do? ^

We just returned from a similar situation. We continued on to Australia from PPT and of course required more luggage for the rest of the trip. On our flights from PPT to Moorea, Moorea to Bora Bora, and Bora Bora back to PPT, we were not charged any over weight charges and the weight of our luggage was never even mentioned to us. Our bags were around 25 Kg each.
Your mileage may vary. The luggage storage facilities are in a shed across the street from the airport. I personally did not feel comfortable leaving the bags there for any extended period of time. If you have to leave bags, doing it at your hotel would probably be the best bet.

Thanks all. Will give my hotel a call (sheraton PPT) and see if they will let me lave off one suitcase a 5 days before we check in. All else fails then i guess we will have to leave it at PPT airport.

Regular luggage allowance is 10Kg / person.
However, for internationnal connecting passengers, you are allowed extra 10Kg / person.
http://www.airtahiti.aero/faq.php?cat=Baggage
Baggage allowance for passengers connecting with an international flight : 20 kg (44 lbs) on flights operated by ATR aircraft, Twin Otter, Dornier, and Beech King, it means in all Air Tahiti flights. This concerns visitors making a circuit on Air Tahiti in connection with international flights, not exceeding 30 days.
* this is available only for passengers reserved on Y class
An additional free baggage allowance of 5 kg (11 pounds) is granted to scuba divers upon presentation of their diver’s card at the check-in counter.
You should be OK.

I know everyone says it but you really don't need many clothes in FP. It's warm and very informal, even at dining at night. The airport does have a left luggage facility- I haven't used it but IIRC it is about $5 per bag per 24hrs. It's also pretty expensive (eg $100 for 4 bags for 4 days).
As mentioned above you get 20kgs per person when connecting from intl flights.

Yeah i know what you mean. We took two suitcase's one with slightly warmer clothes for NZ and one with summer wear for Tahiti and Bora Bora. Did not get to wear any of the shirts and trousers, mostly very casual wear. Even in Bora Bora.
We were coming back to the Sheraton after Bora Bora so they allowed me to leave a sutcase in their left luggage for free :)

We were just there - we had 40 pounds of luggage each for 2 people and had no problem getting it on the plane to Bora Bora. Amounts over 40 pounds up to 70 pounds per person could be taken but you would have to pay an overage charge. Also, you get an extra 5 kg allowance if you are a diver and can show a dive certification card.
