Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Hire car to Kangaroo Island

I'm looking to take a hire car to Kangaroo Island for a few days and having contacted Avis have been told that their hire cars aren't allowed on the ferry from Cape Jervis to Kangaroo Island :confused:

Does anyone know if any of the main hire car companies will allow this or welcome other suggestions?

We're going to K.I. in January. I know that Hertz allows cars from the mainland onto K.I. via ferry (at least that's what they told me). However, we've decided to fly from Adelaide and pick up a car at the airport.

Thanks - I am trying to convince the other half to do this. She hates small planes :D and the thought of flying on a Dash 8 fills her with dread. Having said that for her birthday I arranged a sea plane tour to see whales off the coast of Vancouver - I loved it :eek:

FWIW, the flights to Kangaroo Island on Rex Express are on a Saab 340, although I think that's about the same size as a Dash-8?
We're doing it more for convenience. We're staying in Adelaide the night before K.I., and with the city so close to the airport, we'll be getting up around 5:30am, at the airport by 6, and on K.I. by 7:30 (with a 7am flight).
