MilesBuzz! - Question about airfare with trave agent discount.

Hello,

I am an independent travel agent and work from home for a travel agency. I have an agency card but do not have my offilial IATA card. My question is has anyone ever purchased a ticket with there travel agent card and been turned down to get on the plan?

I mean my card does have the agncies IATA number on it and I always am ok when I show it at hotels but will it work if the airline agent asks to see it? To the city I am going to the tickets would be paper ticketed so would they still ask to see the card since I already have the ticket? Also what would be the worst that would happen if I book a ticket and show up at the airport but they do not let me board? I mean would I be out the money I paid. I just hate to take a gamble with $500 so I would like to know if anyone else has tried this and does it work.

Well, I know nothing about flying as a travel agent, so I have no idea what is valid and not. But I imagine that the worst that can happen if they decide your ticket is not valid is the same as what can happen to folks on other invalid tickets (such as Frequent Flyer tickets purchased from brokers). They let you fly the outbound, and when they check your id on the return, they say no. Now you are in a far flung land, and your only way home that day is to buy a full fare ticket, which could be thousands of dollars.

Definitely do what you can to double check before hand.

Are you flying on a 75AD ticket or a 50AD ticket? Did your agency issue the ticket or did the the airline issue the ticket? Now a days with the proliferation of low cost fares almost no TA's use 75AD. Depending on the airline and the amount of business your travel agency does with them you can sometimes do a 50AD off the J or F fares. It is POS space, correct?

If the airline issued it, or your travel agency issued it through the proper channels and reported on their weekly ARC report, you should have no problem. EVen if you do not have the IATA card, is you name on the IATA list that your travel agency has? AGain, if it was done correctly it should be no problem.
