Trip Reports - AA via NRT : Fat people & crummy accommodations

Last week I flew back to DFW from Narita. I sat in an business class aisle seat and the window seat was occupied by a very very fat man. He could not fasten the seat belt. I watched some flight attendants' faces when they scanned the passengers to see if seat belts were fastened during take off and some rough air and I know they could see his unfastened seat belt but they said nothing. I don't understand; surely there are extenders.

I don't travel all that much anymore but AA's decline is so sad: really uncomfortable business class seats compared to other international carriers, lousy food (and the entree of choice just "isn't available"), and the flight attendants are messy looking (just because one is middle aged, one doesn't have to be a slob). On the outbound flight from DFW to Osaka, the FA told the man across the aisle that he could not have a second butter pat because they did not have any more and then she took mine and gave it to him because I had left it untouched. She didn't ask me before she took it.

I'm going to Europe in a couple months and I'm paying to fly Lufthansa. I could use my AAdvantage miles but I'd rather pay Lufthansa and be comfortable.

AA moderator note:

As this is more of a trip report, and there are no AA-related questions it is being relocated to the Trip Reports forum.

Did you not get the FA's attention and say

"Weeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllllll, you know you make me wanna shout!!!" ;)

Nobody is twisting your arm to fly AA. Take your business elsewhere....it's a free country. I'm sure all the passengers/crew on Lufthansa look like Heidi Klum/Tom Selleck/whoever and their food is to die for. Yeah, right.

I don't think OP's main point was appearance of FA's. I, too, have experienced middle aged Flight Attendands on NW in World Business Class, and some of them (Purser, for instance), had an appearance of a complete slob. Appearances do matter, and FA's should dress and look appropriately and professionally, when they are on duty.

Taking OP's butter without asking is unacceptable and very rude. It should not be happening in any class of service (FA's should have some class!), no matter if its Business or Coach or First.

I am not familiar with food choices on AA, but the fact that it was inedible seems to be a common denominator now in US-based Business class (NW, US, DL, and apparently AA).

I feel that OP's comments were completely justified, and I would have chosen a different carrier too next time. Why waste your money on unacceptable rude, surly service when one can get something better for comparable amount of money?
