MilesBuzz! - Best airline out of RNO?

I just moved to the Reno area and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on which airline to fly. I'm looking more from an award use perspective. I used to fly AA, but they don't offer much of anything for award tickets out of RNO. Any advice out there from folks who fly out of RNO?

Southwest's your best option. I look for award tickets to RNO several times a year (ski season :cool: ), when awards are toughest, and my home airport is not a Southwest airport.

Winner for awards (by a mile): United. And only United, since I can't seem to get the United awards using USAirways miles or other Star Alliance partners.

Second. All of my Reno friends concentrate flying on WN. Lots of flight options, actual service to places eastwards, lots of short hops up and down the west coast, chance to rack up award credits on short flights, etc.

AA's one flight/day each way to ORD or whatever just won't do.

ORD-RNO frequency is expanding to 2x/day early next year. Couple that with 3x/day to DFW and the four daily QX-metal codeshares to LAX, and I don't think it's as bad as people would like to make it.

As an AA flyer out of RNO, I haven't noticed award availability from here being any worse than anywhere else, but everyone's mileage may vary. I personally think that AA is sufficient for my needs (given the AS partnership), but with WN being the dominant airport here, then it might work better for you.

You might check out Alaska (www.alaskaair.com), you can put miles from DL, AA, NW, CO, and several international carriers into your AS account, and there are lots more redemption options than on WN.

Ah. Good news and good points. Being ORD based right now it doesn't change much for me, but it may make visiting Reno easier (cheaper hopefully?).

Thought I was seeing double there for a moment when I glanced at your username on this post!

I have also used WN from RNO to LAS--then I seem to have better luck and more options flying other carriers to the east coast.
