The San Francisco International Airport has been named the best airport in the United States in the annual Best of Executive Travel Awards.
The awards are sponsored by Executive Travel Magazine. They are determined by travel industry experts.
The airport's $2.5 billion renovation and the Air Tran People Mover are part of the reasons SFO received the top honor. The airport's museum and its restaurants are also mentioned in the award.

SFO and DEN are my two favorite UA hubs, so no real argument from me. :)

How in the world did they determine that one? What's the criteria? Delta won for best airline? Whatever. Not that I don't like SFO, but the best? Come on....

I like SFO, and prefer it over OAK - hands down.
I can get from the gate to the BART within 10 minutes. It gets me where I need to go fast.

New international terminal is definitely the best in the US. Miles to go to compare to SIN, KUL, HKG, and AMS, though.

Nothing against either SFO or DL, but this sounds like another of those shill surveys, much like those done by skytrax and similar ilk.

Well, considering everything about SFO except that little matter of runways being too close together (i.e., delay prone), what domestic airport is nicer than SFO? I can't think of any.

Well, if the news story quotes accurately, the "experts" have called the Air Train the Air Tran.

One problem i have with SFO is going from domestic to International on U/A you wait in line for a shuttle or need to go through security again if you walk

I didn't know there was such a shuttle. Do you have to show a United ticket to take it, or can anyone get on? Where does it leave/arrive in each terminal?

Well, if that were the extent of the competition, sure, SFO wins. Beyond that, though?

The ground transportation BART/AirTrain are nice, but the domestic terminals 1 & 3 are old and have few facilities. I can think of a number of better airports, DFW, MSP, ORD (ok delay prone), DTW, ...
I guess having 2 subpar airports SJC & OAK in the bay area really makes people appreciate SFO.

All of your gripes about SFO apply to those airports as well.

Ok, some of their terminals may be old and lack of amenities; but they have at least one new or "newer" domestic terminals. I don't see either of the domestic termianls at SFO is among the best. I am not even sure they are better than average.

I was just through SFO on the NW concourse. I would not rate it among the best airports in the country.
Perhaps top 10, but not #1. I'd give MSP a nod above SFO. The newer C concourse area, ground transportation, NWA tram, and light rail put it ahead of SFO, even though I think of BART as one of the best systems in the country.

I hate SFO, having travelled through it so many times as a UAL 1K.
I like LAX a lot better than SFO.

SFO the best airport in America? Ahahahaha, what a joke.
The international terminal is excellent, but the domestic departure areas are horrendous. The American Airlines pier hasn't been remodeled since it was opened - the gate number signs have their builders plates on them, dated 1980!

the shuttle in the U/a area is located near the info booth which is just beyond the security area, you need to show your ticket to the agent and walk downstairs to the shuttle ,look for a small sign.

And your ticket must be for a flight leaving from the international terminal (G gates.)

Here's a link (http://www.eskyguide.com/survey/) to the actual awards page. It seems the awards are based on "innovation." DL was awarded for the company's Simplifares, SFO for the new international terminal and AirTrain.
And note that Randy Peterson was on the expert panel.

I like LAX a lot better than SFO.
For my preference it is definately the other way. LAX - dirty, crummy, in shambles. Thank goodness I can utilize SFO as an alternative California gateway to the Far East.

Yes, I love the International Terminals. I've only seen International A and Terminal 3 at SFO but if I had a choice, I would always work at International.
I don't blame the passengers for not wanting to take off their shoes at T3 West, that floor is always dirty, and there's just so little space in it! At least East is cleaner and seems to have a bit more space. Hard to belive that the only thing that seperates these two checkpoints are elevators.
