we need to be in a specific area of mass, south boston, the braintree area or the rockland area, next week. there will probabaly be 6 of us, and we would really like connecting rooms (i called the 3* hotel shown tand they could not promise connecting, even if getting rack rate). i have looked on hotwire, which seems to have a much bigger geographical area, and PL. some of the 2* hotels sound better than the 3*, tho there is one 2*--candlewood--which doens't sound good. anyway to narrow-down our choices, what we are getting? any suggestions? i am feeling kind of anxious about all of this.
thanks!!

It's important to realize that all the hotel is obliged to do with a priceline bid is give you a room that accomodates two people. You usually get more (like your choice of smoking/non-smoking and bedding) but you have no recourse if you don't.
If it would be impossible for you to use the room without certain amenities, Priceline isn't a good idea. If you can tolerate some risk, my suggestion would be to start by finding out how much it costs to get exactly what you want by normal channels. Then decide how much not having that choice is worth to you - for instance if what you want costs $180 a night, would a 50% savings - $90/night - be worth it to risk not having connecting rooms/a smoking room/the wrong style of bed? That figure should be your absolute maximum bid. Then check against historical bid figures at either www.betterbidding.com or www.biddingfortravel.com and work from there.
Connecting rooms is hard to guarantee for most hotels, no matter the form of paying.
PL can save you money, but sometimes at a sacrifice.I agree with FlyBalletGuy, it depends on how much sacrifice you are willing to risk.
By the way, most hotels will get you connecting rooms when you check in. It really depends on availability.
