Secure Tag, a Toronto-based startup, has developed an RFID device it says could be used to both identify and secure airline passenger baggage.

This technology is already used in tracking packages that are shipped, so there is no reason why it cannot be used for luggage.

The problem lies in the cost. It is simply much too expensive at the current time.

However, with large retailers, namely Walmart, behind the idea and testing it in their stores it is only a matter of time before the tags become smaller and cheaper.
