Greetings from Angola, here on business.

Anyone been to the new South Coast casino yet? And what's the poker scene there?

TIA,

Yes, but apprently they have had a soft opening. They are taking reservations now. We will be there the first week of January since Mandalay Bay is fairly booked.

South Coast is not open for busniess yet. The rooms are still having their TV's, beds, etc installed. At this point they are planning on having a soft opening on Dec 19th but that is very tentative and looks like it will be pushed back. They have had problems getting their certificate of occupancy and that has put them behind schedule. Originally they planned on a soft opening on Dec 15th.

Thaks for the info. We are planning on a first week of Jan. visit. Guess we might have to look elsewhere off-strip. We like Sun Coast as well, for an off-strip property, so may try there if South Coast is not ready.

If you happened to stay at Sun Coast? Primos Steakhouse is a good place to dine. Great view of the whole valley in the evening. Just south
and east of the property is a shopping area called Boca Park. If you happen
to be in the area on a friday b4 5pm? Walk over to Kona Grill and park
yourselves at the bar. One of the best LOCAL(S) people watching you can
view that side of town. Food, drinks, & Atmosphere are A + . But you need to get there b4 5pm as the place will get crowded cause outdoors might be closed depending on weather. Just south of there about a 2 minute walk is Hannahs Bar. Another good bar and restaurant.
The property just north of you us locals call "The Rampart", but officially
its called the JW Marriott has a great Irish pub with live music.

It looks like South Coast is now targeting Dec 22 as their opening date. Today they are going through county testing and if they pass, they should be able to make that date.

That'll add a good number of rooms just in time for the Consumer Electronics show Jan. 5-8. Although the property is a bit of a drive from the convention center, it will of course be brand new, and they're showing rates of $169-$189 during that period. You can't get a center strip hotel for CES at less than $400/night right now.
