I am wondering how much of a RTW trip you could make using mostly UA metal to get the EQM bonus and maximize the RDM. I guess the starting point would be in the U.S....but maybe somewhere else would be better.

The same question could be asked using primarily any *A carrier for mileage benefits. (Thus avoiding the Mods moving this thread to the UA forum :) )

Much more interest and knowledge of RTW's here. :D

I did that on my last RTW. I flew FRA-IAD-SFO-KIX... NRT-BKK.

That's the best you can do. Of course you can add intra-Asia flights as well and US domestic and you can skip down to S America, but in the end you have to get from SIN/BKK to Europe somehow by another * carrier.

However, part of the fun in going RTW is to try other carriers. The compensation with UA is of course that you can easily upgrade C to F.

Once I was able to do about 80% of an RTW on UA. Back when UA had RTW service of course.

I flew MEL-SYD-HKG on AN (R.I.P.) then HKG-DEL-LHR-ORD-xyz(internal USA)-SFO-SYD-MEL. In factI did it twice in a number of variations.

Those were the good old days. Of course I agree it's good to mix up the carriers for experience. My preferred Asia-Europe route is SK BKK-CPH. They treat *G fairly well (I have been operationally upgraded) and it's one of the comfier rides in the 340.
