Diners Club is ending redemption of its points with CO, NW, and US (& HP) on 1 January 2006, and UA on 27 April 2006.

See No longer able to redeem on UA after Apr 27, 2006 others Jan 1 (Diners Club forum)

Please continue the discussion in that thread. However, as this thread falls to the very bottom of the first page of this forum, perhaps someone could give an appropriate bump of outrage or concern, through the end of the year, so that others who do not regularly visit the DC forum may be aware of this most significant development. :(

And I was thinking of getting a Diners Club card now that they are accepted as M/C............
Not anymore :td:

The referenced thread is now the most responded-to thread in the history of the Diners Club forum. This is earthshaking news for those who have relied on Diners Club for "account maintenance" to keep accounts alive triennially, and for "topping off" when nearing an award level.

For topper-offers, looks like Starwood might be your best bet going forward. All of those airlines are on the SPG conversion list, although United only converts at half the rate of the others.

I switched from Diner's Club to SPG Amex three years ago anyway. I realized I was mainly a topper-offer with DC points. So instead of paying a high annual fee to get 0.913 miles/$, I now pay a low annual fee to get true 1:1 on small conversions, plus a vastly higher bang-for-buck when I use free hotel stays instead of converting to miles.

The only thing that would keep me in Diner's Club would be if I had a pattern of trashing rental cars.

I switched to Starwood also but you can only transfer to account in your own name. That was a major benefit of DC.

Yes, but you can transfer Starwood points to anyone else's Starwood account in your household (as long as address is same). Then transfer them to your wife's (etc) FF account.

It is my guess with the fallout of the new Diners Changes that the Starwood American Express will cinch the Freddies this year for CC of the year over Diners. ^
It was pretty close this year. This should finish them off good or certainly over time.
The Diners Club Card moved toward a slow death IMO the day they started with the fees to redeem your miles.
From there on it went downhill with a slew of negative changes over time due to the pathetic and notorious Citibank greed.
Even the promotions became stingy
Mind you this is from one of the most profitable banks in the world
Their greed factor is simply amazing

A shame they killed one of the greatest affinity cards in history.
I used to be a huge fan of the card.........This put the final nails in the coffin
Thought of coming back at one point this closes the door on all possibility.
eeeeek :td:

This put the nail in the coffin. I agree. It's tragic how they've gutted Diners Club under cover of the "enhanced acceptance" line that came with the MasterCard hookup. I'm glad I dropped it this summer. There's next to nothing left of DC.

There's next to nothing left of DC.Maybe so in the US and Canada, but with 10 lounge visits in the past membership year + some great offers, this was the best year for me with DC EVER! So it's Diners for another year for me. But they better not start messing with my benefits... Hope there will be some added benefits in the future also in N.A!

That's and the ability to tranfer to any other program are the two benefits that have kept me since they eliminated the 60 day grace period.

But --I just received an offer for a Chase business card that provides primary rental car coverage. No points...but no annual fee either.

Can you provide details as to which Chase business card has this feature?

I cancelled my Diner's Club this weekend after cashing out the points, since my annual fee of $95 was also due. Just not worth it since I also paid $6.65 for the privilege of transferring 7000 miles to an airline they will no longer partner with. I did like using the card for Sao Paulo airport club access, but my current travel patterns are unlikely to take advantage of this benefit going forward. Citi has killed the card. Starwood Amex may be in my future.

Haven't joined the DC reward program for $75 or $70...
Is this program a good idea? anyone?
Company requires using this corporate card...
