It's currently December 2 - you have until December 31st to qualify.

Book rooms in your city - check in and check right out or give them as a "gift" to a friend for a night on the town (you still need to check in). There is plenty of time to get 6 finished.

I suggest that you narrow down the areas that you're interested in. Anything more than, "I'm based in Canada?"

Got a price limit? Are you truly only interested in mattress runs for the status, or are you looking to make some vacations out of the run? How far are you willing to travel? (And if it affects the decision of flight/travel costs, would this be a solo run or not?)

Give us more to work with, and I'd bet some good ideas would come up.

I started off by searching for all hotels in Canada for tomorrow night and then sorting it by price. (FWIW, the cheapest standard rate from that search is CAD84 at the Four Points Canmore, Alberta.)

Among the lowest Starwood prices out there in December is the Aladdin CEARLY rate for just $49/nt on Dec 4, 11-15, 20-22, and 25-26. Almost all other nights there this month have availability between $59 and $179. (There's no online booking bonus for the CEARLY rate, though, since it has to be booked through the hotel.)

Pardon me... of course more info might help...
I am in Vancouver, Canada,

I'd rather not do mattress runs...

I guess what i was hoping to find is some what to obtain plat, perhaps a plea and a comp?

Canmore would work for me, but not for 6 nts!

Thanks everyone!

The Westin Bayshore has been showing rates as low as $115 CAD.... and the Sheraton Guildford as low as $99 in December......

One other vital piece of info you should give us is: how many stays do you have this year? In other words, how many one-night cheap stays are you from the magic number of 25?

Also, you now say you'd rather not do mattress runs, but your thread title suggests otherwise....

Another consideration is using the starwood world wide promo or something, 3rd day free or 5 days at 25% off or something like that if you check in on saturday, worth looking at.
BEWARE THE PREPAY tho

I needed 3 more stays this winter to remain SPG Platinum. I had 3 stays booked in my home town for later in Dec.

While driving around the suburbs of the city where we visited for Thanksgiving, we came around a corner, and there, tucked way in back, was a 4Pts. I quickly called SPG, asked for promo rates....and booked 2 non-consecutive nights at $60 each.

Now I'm just down to one more night needed.....and I'll do that in my home town.

Book rooms in your city - check in and check right out or give them as a "gift" to a friend for a night on the town (you still need to check in).

Beware the ides of March! And beware giving local hotel stays to friends.

Several years ago, we had a coupon for a free night's stay......and we had no interest in travelling anywhere by the expiration date. With pets to deal with, we had no interest in a "night on the town."

So, I gave it as a gift. I gave it as a gift to my secretary. Heck, I figured she had 3 young boys at home, each under 8 years of ago. She has a nice husband......figured they needed a night away.

Little did I know she would not take her husband. Little did I know an ex-boyfriend was in town. Little did I know she would get pregnant.

Little did I know my gift would lead to a divorce.

Do you mean the multi-night promos? There are several of those: discounts on 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6-night stays; limited availability; prepaid and nonrefundable. It's NOT true that you have to "check in on Saturday;" the checkin day requirements vary depending on which promo you choose.

Here are the links for those (this is a new crop, with an expiration date of December 15, 2006, and destinations worldwide):

Starwood multi-night promo rates worldwide (http://www.starwoodhotels.com/promotions/promo_landing.html?category=GENDRE_H&IM=SPG_SO_DRE_H&back=-1)

The promo codes for this set, by the way, are Z2H, Z3H, Z4H, Z5H, and Z6H, for the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6-night deals, respectively.

*wood only gives a comp when you have the same status at another chain e.g., Hyatt Diamond.

Entirely depends on what your travel patterns are going to look like for next year. If PLT is going to be of real worth for you next year (heavy business travel to SPG cities or a couple of long vacations to SPG hotels), then I would definely do the mattress runs. All you have to do is check in and leave. Call the hotel the next day and have them fax your checkout folio.

Good luck.

There are at least 5 *wood properties in Vancouver. Since pleas don't work with spg I'd suggest the mattress run--if it is 6 nights then 2 long weekends at the 4P YVR or Sheraton Guildford will give you the 6 nights. If you need 6 stays then you'll have to be very creative. But the Plat. Status is definitely worth it IMHO.

How about a shopping weekend in Seattle?
Or a VERY quiet weekend up in Kamloops?
Or a more expensive weekend up in Whistler?

BTW, the Westin Whistler is VERY nice!!
