Other Credit Card Programs - MBNA SPG anniversary date - give up and renew to get more pts?

Has anyone dropped their MBNA SPG card before their card 'anniversary' and:
a) got to keep the pts
b) Signed up again and recieved 'new' signup bonuses??

Do they have a time frame 'away' before you are considered 'new' (and eligible for bonus) again?

do the take away their pts??

I did see some dialogue about losing pts, but also came across a confirmation from William (starwood lurker) that you do keep your points (though apparently a 'glitch' had people losing them).

So I guess the question remains - would they let you 're-up' and bonus you for it??
