Starwood Preferred Guest - Switch from SPG to Fairmont???
Hello All,
I am a Plat memnber at SPG, and i now have to travel to Boston and MTL on a regualr basis, I like SPG, but i am very tempted to move to Fairmont.
Thoughts on this choice please,
Thanks, in advance,
SML
I am a member in both programs, each is good in it's owm way. I like how SPG involves itself with AMEX to provide bonus opps, and it is certainly nice to get comp room upgrades (SPG Gold)...
Having said that, with FPC it is really easy to get status..... 5 stays or 10 nights until the first level, and 10 stays or 30 nights for the next level... And they let you get status AND reward you with airline points (Aeroplan for me).... HOWEVER, the 2006 benefits are significantly less than the 2005 benefits....
If I were you, I would join FPC, make it to First level of status for some of the benefits, and then go SPG after that??

The $99/yr Canadian Diners Club/Mastercard might be of interest to you: http://www.dinersclubnorthamerica.com/CA/en/en_home_flash.jhtml
It gives FPC Premier status. Pretty good deal.
No Problem. Forgot to mention one thing.... one of my favorite Fairmont perks.... a shoe shine every time you check in to a city center Fairmont. I know it is minor, but nothing feels as good to me on my first day of meetings in a new city to have nicely shined shoes...... although I am sure a suite upgrade everytime would work too..... :-)
Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

And not just a one year introductory Premier offer, but for as long as you're a DC cardholder in good standing. ^
