Is this buzzworthy? I guess the moderators will let us know soon enough.
There are huge, rampant rumors flying through the DL and CO boards about a possible merger. Randy himself has described that an announcement of "huge proporations" to Skymiles members will be made on Monday.

and there's another credible thread on airliners.net:

This message is just a heads up for those of you who do not normally frequent the DL or CO boards.

I hope and pray they are not true.

For me, and I am stating it as a non-FF, I would not be so opposed to this, as CO has a very limited European network. With a merger with DL, I should be able to fly many AF flights, and be able to use my CO miles, once again, on Czech Airlines to Prague!!

As that little boy supposedly said to Shoeless Joe Jackson during the Black Sox Scandal of 1919, "Say it ain't so, Joe!"

I was against the UA/US merger, however I would support this one. If this were to occur I think that the partnership between CO, NW & HP would have to end. I can see why people in Ohio would not be in favor of a new Delta controlling Cincinnati and Cleveland, however from a selfish point of view, it would be great to have more flexibility out of Sacramento on Delta.

CO and NW have spent huge amounts and efforts to fully integrate their FF, codeshare and rez systems. The latest milestone is that they finally have it so that status is mutually recognized in the rez systems.

The people who will like this merger:
The Deltoids who have no status and want to get the occasional free ticket to Europe.
The people who will make out like bandits from the merger.
Umm.. I don't think the list gets longer from there.

Sorry, I don't get your point. Why would an even enlarged elite base make it easier to get the a ticket to Europe?

Now a competitor to AA and UA I would be impressed with http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I hope this does go through...

Well, we're only hours away from whatever the big announcement is.
I hope that by this time tomorrow all possiblity of CO being "eaten up" by DL will have been dashed. I hope that we will be laughing at how scared many of us were that the beloved CO would become only a memory...

I think this DL/CO talk is a load of crap. Maybe they might enter into a code sharing agreement with either Continental or Northwest or how about even Virgin Atlantic. Maybe extra milage for flights across the Atlantic. All I can see is this speculation started from one post on Airliners.net with Randy mentioning big changes in the frequent Flyer Scheme.
I am surprised I haven't seen more negative postings.

The industry seems to be heading toward a couple mega mega carriers, anyways. Imagine the redundancy of a NW/HP/CO/DL alliance in middle America, with hubs at CVG, CMH, CLE, and DTW. How about consolidating into a single huge huge airport-- say we pave over the city of Dayton and make it the largest hub between the coasts. FAA would love that.......
As a CO and Friends flyer, all I ask is that there not be a train with that annoying voice saying "Doors do not spring back" a la ATL.
I'll step down from my sarcastic soapbox now.

I hop ethis doesn't happen. Prices would go up markedly with so little competition! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
