Hi,

I stay in New Hampshire USA and I am a member of Lufthansa mile-n-more. Curently I have 30196 status miles. To achieve the Frequent Traveler Status, I need to have 35000 miles by 31st Dec. I am making a trip stay to west coast in Dec 2nd and 3rd week on United (Star Alliance partner of Lufthansa). I was expecting to achieve the FT status by accumulating the remaining 4804 miles from this trip but was shocked to learn that that I would be getting only 50% of my miles for United as I have a class "W" ticket and miles-n-more credits only 50% for united class "W". Can someone let me know how many miles will I get for my west coast trip? With those miles if I don't hit the 35000 miles, what is the cheapest way to get the remaining miles? My trip itinerary is as follows
MHT to IAD
IAD to LAX
SFO to CLT
CLT to LGA
LGA to MHT

Thanks and Regards,
Prasad

The great circle mapper is your friend.

http://gc.kls2.com/

this is your map (http://gc.kls2.com/cgi-bin/gc?PATH=MHT-IAD-LAX-SFO-CLT-LGA-MHT&RANGE=&PATH-COLOR=&PATH-UNITS=mi&SPEED-GROUND=&SPEED-UNITS=kts&RANGE-STYLE=best&RANGE-COLOR=&MAP-STYLE=)
segments under 500 miles typically are 500 miles, at least in united, I am not sure what it is under M&M.

Assuming it's accurate (and typically it's been within a mile of the actual total, so pretty bang on), you'd get something on the order of 6628 miles if you credited with united. Since you're saying that M&M does it at 50%, you're looking at half that or 3314. Looks like you're going to need another MR. :(

Using the great circle mapper, you get

Route flown miles credited

MHT to IAD 418 500
IAD to LAX 2288 1144
SFO to CLT 2296 1148
CLT to LGA 544 500
LGA to MHT 195 500

So adding all those, you get 3792 miles. I don't know if it is still feasible, but if the following routing is possible, it would give you 4858miles:

MHT-IAD
IAD-SFO
SFO-LAX
SFO-CLT
CLT-PIT
PIT-LGA
LGA-MHT

Otherwise you will have to find a cheap flight with at least 3 segments, since most shorter flights in the US will get you only 500miles/segment.
