For what it's worth, IMO, you're better off bringing your own food on board, albeit you cant use a knife: but you can always do better on the outside anyway.

(: flowerchild Sep 21, 01, 7:18 pm It's a waste of money because most people either decline or throw it away. Last time the only thing edible was the apple. I always carry a sandwich, fresh veggies, fruit or energy bars. Once another passenger asked the FA why I got a better lunch than she did! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif RAD Sep 21, 01, 8:54 pm OK, eliminating meals may not be the end of the world and by saving money could help the airlines recover a bit faster. Not to mention decreased turnaround times because the catering truck is less of a factor. BUT let's not forget the people at the catering companies that will now be out of work. Somehow the pithy phrase makes sense here: "There is no such thing as a free lunch." RAD unagi1 Sep 21, 01, 9:24 pm There is a minor security benefit to this, since less catering trucks mean less people that they have no control over on the planes... ElmhurstNick Sep 21, 01, 9:38 pm There's still a catering truck for the drinks. But if you don't serve meals, you can sometimes get rid of an extra FA above the FAA minimum... sendoisan Sep 21, 01, 10:46 pm It is not about security, it is about petty penny pinching. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif They are still loading food for First and/or business class right? SST Sep 23, 01, 6:41 pm This is unmitigated baloney. Penny-pinching is the rationale. Look, people are entitled to something to eat when they are cooped up in an uncomfortable chair for several hours. What with "3 hour early checkin" and flight delays, someone with diabetes or any sort of digestive or blood sugar level problem is essentially being tortured if they don't have ANYTHING. Besides, we're paying for this. It's not much good, we all know, but until EVERY airline makes like Southwest (just peanuts), I expect them to make an attempt to give me something to eat at or around mealtime. Let's not lose civilization here. milesforyourmoma Sep 23, 01, 9:42 pm No lost for anyone who flies on AA or any other domestic carriers. It is ALWAYS best to take your own food as you know that it is much better than what is being served. I am surprised that the airlines didn't stop meals on some flights years ago from people suing over food poisoning or other illnesses. slawecki Sep 24, 01, 6:39 am How can you take your own food with no carryon? toadman Sep 24, 01, 1:27 pm Originally posted by slawecki: How can you take your own food with no carryon? Put it in a paper/or plastic bag. benoit Sep 25, 01, 10:04 pm You can drive your seatmates crazy by bringing on tons of gourmet food to eat, while they starve with cardboard like MSG snacks Karmann Sep 26, 01, 2:56 pm I'm sure they'll continue to offer meals - for a price. After you hand over $5 for headphones, it will be another $20 for a meal. se94583 Sep 26, 01, 3:09 pm Its just a matter of time until they remove J class and replace it with a Starbuck's. jukebox Sep 30, 01, 5:00 pm Perhaps it is for the best. I was on an American flight last August. When they got to my seat in the last row they ran out of milk for my cereal. When I complained about the open carton the flight attendant gave me she took the elderly couple's milk (they were to share a carton) and split it three ways like we were children.
