What's with the "additional driver" fee they sometimes try to collect? If one declines that "option" upfront but then let's another drive the rental car, what possible consequences? The same insurance coverage extends from my primary car insurance policy and the credit card which I am charging it to, so what else, if anything, is there to be concerned about if one declines to give Thrifty another $5+ per day?

Could just be a Maui thing, or could be that there are other brokers out there that can offer such deals.

Thanks, but doesn't answer my quasi-legal question - what possible consequences if one declines to pay their fee for an additional driver, which strikes me as a "junk" one, and lets spouse, friend, etc. drive the car once off rental lot? The only thing that occurs to me is that it might somehow affect the insurance coverage that extends from one's own auto coverage and/or from the credit card company, though I don't know how or why that should happen? So any reason to ever pay them the $5/day to permit an additional driver?

[When can I expect the bike to arrive?]

I've long had the same question and never come up with an answer. The issue of what your insurance (or credit card) covers might be important: it might only cover drivers who have the contracted right to drive the car.

As for spouse, check the contract. Many contracts say a family member or co-worker is allowed to drive without the additional driver fee or even registration. At least this used to be the case; it's been a few years since I read a car rental contract.
