Which would you pick for mid-December cheapo rates? Bally's is running $49/night and Alladin $59. I've stayed at both and quite like both. I would get the slightly upgraded resort room at Aladdin due to starwood gold. It almost seems like the upgraded rooms at Aladdin are about the same size as Bally's standard, though, and 1/3 of that room is the bathroom! Travelling alone I don't think I need that great a bathroom and prefer more room in the, um, room. But, I don't like playing at Bally's, just like the location whereas the Aladdin casino, I think at least, can be much more fun and lively, especially at night. Anyways, thoughts, suggestions, etc? Also, for a little more places like Mirage and TI are running great specials too.

I don't like either hotel and don't care for Mirage or TI. Depends on what you are looking for between Ballys and Aladdin I would go Aladdin for the points. Otherwise I would go Mirage

0 for 4, huh? :) What do you like, out of curiosity? Everyone in Vegas is different, I guess. I just like that center part of the strip a lot more than the south...

Take the points and go to the Aladdin - it's a no-brainer.

I did sound a bit picky :p
In order of preference and what I like about it
Mandalay (I like that it is away from the main part and love the pool area) plus its close to my favorite steak place Charlie Palmers
Venetian
Paris (liked it better when I was able to get hilton points) - Location
Bellagio - Location, Conservatory
Aladdin - Location, shopping, SPG points, I can get PF Changs via room service
I've stayed at a bunch of the other hotels at some point and for various reasons won't stay there again

Of your four choices I definitely recommend the Aladdin. Make sure you eat at the Spice Market Buffet at least once, it is my favorite buffet in Vegas.

I enjoyed an October stay at Aladdin and yes, you'll get an upgrade with an SPG gold card.
Room size is decent - bigger than Bellagio's standard room. And let's face it, exactly what do you do with a "bigger" room anyway? I sleep in my hotel rooms; I don't pace from wall to wall, discover that it's six paces across at Aladdin, six and a half paces at Ballys, and marvel for hours over the difference. :D :D :D
Spice Market Buffet is okay but overrated in my opinion. Even though you're south strip, you can walk across to Monte Carlo and then tram to Bellagio. Once there you're center strip.

As an aside, on Thanksgiving day I walked by the Spice Market Buffet line at 4pm, and they were quoting a 90 minute wait. My wife and I had reservations at Commanders Palace a hundred yards away, where we had one of the twenty best meals of our lives.

Mirage is clearly the best of the hotels you mentioned. TI and Aladdin are comparable. Bally's is a bit cheaper feeling.

I would go for Aladdin, simply because of Starwoods and that it's a newer hotel. My last stay was at Bally's and I had a good size room, just a little dated. I didn't spend much time in the room so my rate worked great and I loved the location since I spent most of my time at the Bellagio and Caesar's.

I just came back from a trip to vegas with some friends who stayed at Bally's, and I stayed at Aladdin's the whole time. I got to visit both rooms, and the Aladdin ones are slightly bigger, with better view due to the gold upgrade (one can see the Aladdin pool, as well as the Bellagio watershow!)
In terms of checking in and checking out, the lines are easily half an hour at both hotels, but spg gold at aladdin has its own line, and this will save you some hassle.
In general - I'd go with Aladdin, since it earns spg points, has rooms with a better view, and enables fast checkin/checkout! besides, if you're into blackjack, Aladdin's is better as well...

I definitely agree that the Aladdin has one of the best buffets in town. None of the stuff that tastes like paper and cardboard.
I, too, would go with the points if you had to pick between the two hotels.

I'd call Bally's 'faded' and comfortable instead of cheaper. Six of one, six of the other I suppose. All other things equal, I'd stay at Mirage, but given the rate and the SPG points... Aladin in a second.

For $10 more a night, not only will you have a more modern room, a better view (thanks to your SPG Gold status), VIP line priveleges (thanks to your SPG Gold status), and SPG stay credit, but you won't have a yucky shower curtain billowing into you while you try to take a shower in a bathtub. The Aladdin bathroom, with it's separate shower, is IMO worth an extra $10 by itself.

I stayed at the Aladdin on Tuesday and had a great stay. With being SPG Gold I received an upgrade to a resort room which was great! It had a great view of the strip and the water fountains @ Bellagio. My only complaint is that self park is a hike from the check-in and you need to walk through parts of the mall, next time i'm opting for valet. I would definately stay here again....

do not stay at Bally's -- its worn out, old, and tired, and the buffet is extremely sad -- resembles a high school cafeteria with a similar level of food service. bally's needs to be torn down. the only time you should go through Bally's is to go to the monorail stop there.
