Qatar Airways Privilege Club - BAH/DOH - CAI: Gulf or Qatar?

I am currently choosing between flying with either GF or QR in first class from BAH or DOH to CAI. The GF flight is on a 340, the QR a 332. Anyone have any recent experiences on either of these carriers in first class? It is a relatively short flight, but long enough that some pampering would be nice! Any comments appreciated.

Without any doubt: QR. It has one of the best First Classes I have seen. GF has an excellent F product on its 330's, but on its other planes the first class is pathetic (Think 2x2x2 62" pitch not flat seat on GF*) In Doha you will get a private limo to take you to the plane - its touches like that which I assume you are looking for... QR will pamper you :)
* Depending on which day you fly you might get version "a" of the A340, which has a 1x2x1 layout with 73" pitch

QR does take very good care of you and the F lounge in Doha is very nice. Recently, the limo to the plane has been replaced by a very luxurious bus that holds 12 F passengers in large seats. At least I haven't seen the individual cars lately; I don't know if they still use them for some flights.

I know that they did use buses for J passengers, and the BMW cars for F passengers. However, I havent flown QR this year so it may have changed

I've used both airline long haul in first. Although Gulf is very good (on their A330's with it's new flat beds) I think the older A340 aren't up to much. QR on the other hand were excellent - so go with QR

Yes, it changed a few months ago. I have not seen the cars for F since May or June. The F buses are quite nice, but not as much fun as the cars.

Sorry to bother you guys again, but on their A330s (in particular, the ones which have F), is the seating 1-2-1 in that class? Many thanks for any help once more!

No bother :)
On the GF A330's, the layout is 1x2x1 for First Class, this is also true on the QR A330's

As a Gold Gulf Air Frequent Flyer I suggest GF. GF has two versions of A340. Type A and Type B. I think A are original GF configured and owned from new and Type B are ex Singapore Airlines. B have a 2-1-2 layout and A 2-2-2 layout with older seating. Both A and B recline to 170 degrees. Unfortunatley GF A340's need an upgrade, which they are getting very soon I hear- this is VERY welcome news for us Sydney based FF's!!!! The chef service also unfortunately only applies to the Beirut route within the Middle East. That service alone is woth flying GF for. I have enjoyed flying GF ultra long haul from Sydney to BAH, the Gulf and Europe. The fares have been very reasonable and the service in F and J wonderful. Bahrain lounge is one of the most wonderful with a chef in F class lounge..DOH lounges do not compare.
QR may have the better seating on that route but DOH(Doha airport is a zoo..the lounges inadequate and the bus to the aircraft a futher hassle in the stiffling heat.
GF A330 F Class seating is quite sophisticated and very world class and would easily compare with QR F class, if not better. It's 1-2-1 and you will enjoy it thoroughly! All GF A330's have 3 class config. F/J/Y

sorry to rehash this thread...but as you all say on FT."do a search..." and so I did.....looking for any updated info...will be traveling in Apr. with wife and 2yrd old (3 seats)..routing is DEL-CAI via DOH....seems like DEL-DOH is J class only..but DOH-CAI is avail. in F similiar offering price wise on EY (whereas both sectors avail in F for same price on Gulf)..so there in lies my dielmna which one to go with...any particular benefits of F in one over the other currently? GF shows f class seating in 1-2-1 and 2-2-2 configs for the sectors....
any advice aprreciated..thanks
