we are scheduled to fly on LY/DL codeshare, Dl ticket. LY reserves worst seats for those tickets, I think. Any suggestions to getting better seats?

this is a well known problem.

the best I can suggest is that you try calling LY directly. might work, or might not....

I think that one of the reasons for this is that these codeshares are not an "operational" code share. from what I'm told, DL actually buys the LY seats (in groups of 6 I think), & pays LY cash for them. wheras other codeshares are mutually available to both airlines if there is availability.

really it's my brother who should be answering as he is better knowledged on these things than me....

I am flying TLV-JFK (LY 001) on 26-dec,
then JFK-SLC (DL 1414) on 29-dec,
on 5-jan I fly SLC-JFK (on DL 340, but using LY 8890 code), & then JFK-TLV (LY 008).

1. is there anyway I can find out if the LY flight are the 2-class, or 3-class configuration?
does anyone have any seat suggestions for these flights & the best way to get them?

2. I only have the LY PNR, which will not work on the DL website to pull up my itinerary.
how can I get the DL PNR?
can anyone suggest how I can get seat assignments for the DL segemnts?

any info. would be much appreciated

joshua3 - Your profile shows that you live in J-Town. Is it possible that anyone you're friends with has a friend or relative working at LY, or at TLV? If so, they might be able to help you with the LY portion.

I've had a couple of times in the past when a friend who worked at an office job for LY in Chicago was able to hook me up with decent seats.

Pray.

I was in the same situation a month ago. I had one reservation, and my parents has a separate reservation since they started in a different city. When I bought the tickets for all of us from Delta the agent said she linked the reservations, and she assigned us seats on LY. It seemed like she had access to all the seats - I requested and received 3 near the front of economy.

When we went to check-in in TLV the agent had none of this information: no reserved seats, and the reservations weren't linked. She put my parents in 1 row, and me in a middle seat somewhere else. After talking to a supervisor, showing a printout from Delta with our "confirmed" seats, and being very insistent we ended up together.

The agent and supervisor said that not having the seat information sent over is a common problem with Delta, and their only suggestion was to call ElAl directly for a seat.

Good luck.

this actually ended up not being a problem, I called LY reservations & was able to get a pretty decent seat for the out bound (thanks to www.lyseatmaps.tk), the agent said i seemed to know better than her where the best seats were. on the return from the US however, all the even semi decent seats were either taken, or more often, blocked for families (bulk heads & exit rows) & glod/plat level flyers (the windows/aisles in the front cabin). so the agent told me to check back in a week or two to see what's become available.

NOW, I have the opposite problem. as my SLC-JFK is on the LY code, DL don't even have me on the passenger list. I called LY res again (surprised there was someone to answer at 24:30) & was told that as I am ticketted on the LY flight #, the LY system has not synced up w/the DL system to give them my name &c. imagine my horror as the agent told me that sometimes this info only gets to the DL system 48 hours before the flight...
hopfully I'll try again in a few days & it'll have sync'd by then. unfortunately w/the DL office in TLV closed, there's no chance of getting the LY agent to ring them up & sort out a seat assignement for me
