Just learned that NorthWest WP program may very well match the status of a competitor's program to attract high-yield customers. Any chance for CX or any other One World member to give in to that kind of request? I definitely have enough full-fare J-class trips to hand out. (Platinum with AF) (I can give an address in Hong Kong)

Very much interested in this 'cos CX just gave my address to Hilton to give me a gold status even though I'm only a green member!

Hi, not a chance. Besides, CX doesn't need to do such thing.
If you will fly enough J, I'm sure you can earn higher status in no time. =)

Cheers !

The fastest way to OneWorld status is via the AAdvantage Challenge. See the Sticky at the top of the AA Forum for more info.

Unless I'm mistaken, if you're flying J, one round trip LHR-JFK should be enough.

In my opinion, AA miles are fairly useful, though it depends of course where you fly.

CX does comp status -- but not to top tier :(. Happened to me very recently. I emailed a scan of a recent ff statement showing > 100,000 status miles / year and scans of past 5 years top tier membership cards from a competing airline.

CX does comp status to top tier, although it appears that this is not done frequently.

I just got home and found an envelope from CX. Inside was a Silver Marco Polo club card and two luggage tags. Very nice suprise since I have been putting my J segments on BA.

The letter stated that "due to my recent travel and loyalty to CX" they are giving me a Silver membership in the Marco Polo Club. It's good until November 2006.

i called CX in the US and told them that i'd like to do a status match - either with LH, UA or AA - they bluntly refused

is there some email address where i can write to them and make a request?

Try contacting the club (theclub@cathaypacific.com) directly. I imagine you will need to show evidence of frequent travel on Cathay routes in premium cabins and, perhaps, a recent history of travelling on Cathay. They may not match AA since it is a OneWorld partner

More important than showing previous travel, you'll have a better chance if you can show that you've got future CX travel booked. My boss got comped to INV status on the back of about a dozen or so long-haul J returns booked when he relocated to HK from Oz.

Here's a thread with some info-- and some obvious fabrications as well, unfortunately.

they gave me silver status - in match to my senator status at LH - not the best, but couldn't hurt - so i accepted it

You may get a nice surprise... After getting the comp upgrade to Silver -- fly a bunch of segments in paid J/F over a short period and you may find yourself upgraded to Gold before you have racked up 60K ;) . Think of it as an unwritten Gold challenge.

Same here. Very nice and quick. Per the suggestion of ACORD, emailed to the club, received an email the next day requesting a fax of LH SEN, faxed my LH SEN info and account statement. Next day I received an email offer of Silver and accepted. Looks like I'll need to add a couple trips to BKK this year for some ex-BKK CX tickets.

Wow I haven't heard of such quick comps from cx before. I wonder if it's because you are from non one world airlines?

I heard there is some agreement that one world airlines can't poach each other by comping? Is this true?

I got comped based on my BA account, so even if that is the policy, it is not necessarily being strictly adhered to.

Damn...looks like I wasted 30,000 club miles when I joined MPO.
