Budget Travel - any suggestions to stay cheaply in Shanghai?

please help...does anyone know of any rooms for rent or other 'cheaper' situations in Shanghai? my boyfriend needs a place starting this friday, Nov 25th until Dec 11th. i realize this is last minute...but i appreciate any information anyone has.

Check out Hiker Youth Hostel in Shanghai, its a really nice hostel with no age limit and pretty modern. Dorms are around 50 RMB which is about 6 dollars. Private rooms have their own bathrooms, showers, and TV. It's really nice and pretty cheap for Shanghai. It is also super close to the Bund and 5 minutes walking distance from Nanjing Rd.

You can take the Shanghai Meilong railway station: Metro no. 2 to "Middle Henan Road".

No matter where your boyfriend goes, make sure he has the phone number of the place he will be staying...It is very hard to correctly pronounce addresses and your cabbie will most likely just call the hostel for directions in chinese.

Very clean. I think it was like 15 USD/night. Comprable to a Holiday inn quality or the like.
