Travel Technology - Cell Phone Companies learned there pricing from the legacy carriers, I think.

I lost my personal cell phone, it's a Cingular Samsung P207. Liked the phone overall.

Suspended the service, and called Cingular to work on a replacement.

I'm only being offered retail price + $25 for a new SIM card. That's about $250 when all is said & done.

I can cancel my contract for $150, and then start up new service with Tmobile, getting a Blackberry 7100 (?) for about $150.

I see absolutely no logic in staying with Cingular at this point...and I've made it clear to them that's what I will do. Has anybody had luck with this type of situation? Seems stupid to lose a 7 year customer...

Odd Cingular always offers "new contract pricing" when I agree to renew for the next 2 years, offer to renew your contract for the rebates.

UNITED959, how long did you have your Samsung & current contract before losing the phone?

Sorry for your loss...I know what a pain it is to lose an essential travel tool.

Why not just buy a replacement phone on ebay or from a discounter?

I found an ebay seller that offers replacement 64K Cingular sims for about US$3-6 from San Francisco.

Just renewed the contract in June...so not eligible for an upgrade. I'm happy to even sign a 2 year extension...makes no difference to me...but that's not an option.

Frustrating as I just don't get the logic.
