Did this just run it's course? I wanted to go again. I see that tickets were originally on sale after this date but are no longer available. Anyone know the scoop?
Las Vegas - We Will Rock You --- cancelled after 11/27View Full Version : We Will Rock You --- cancelled after 11/27 indufan Nov 17, 05, 12:04 am Did this just run it's course? I wanted to go again. I see that tickets were originally on sale after this date but are no longer available. Anyone know the scoop? ORD & LAS Nov 17, 05, 12:31 am Facts are that while "We Will Rock You" is a very good show? It hasn`t drawn $$$$ at the box office like shows as Mama Mia at M-Bay. Rumor has it that Paris is trying to lure a show called Divine Miss M or other venues to increase revenue. Another very big rumor here is since Paris is now owned by Harrahs? Other venues including their sister properties such as Rio, Ballys,Flamingo, and the Harrahs itself? Those theatre shows might be changing due to a huge shakeup Harrahs are instilling to increase more revenue. Those shows that might be affected are Gladys Knight, The Scintas, Jubilee, and even the talented Clint Holmes that alot of locals like could be on notice. But no one knows for sure. But as you know? Big corporations run the town now. And like anything else? Its all about dollars and cents. Probably the 2 that doesn`t have to worry are Celine Dion & Elton John who both perform flip/flop schedule when they are resting one another. lvgambler Nov 17, 05, 2:06 am Actually closing the show may have had more to do with artistic differences than box office. WWRY never had their tickets turn up at the 1/2 price outlets, and only a handful would turn up 1/2 price at Goldstar Events online. Problems started after the Harrahs takeover, and their demand that the show be cut from 2 hours to 90 minutes.....a standard for shows at all their properties. They did make the cut, but there were rumblings about it, then the announcement they were taking the show to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Zurich. There does appear to be an entertainment shakeup going on, but Gladys Knight isn't really one of them. She had chosen not to continue her show and ended her 4 year run last Saturday. Wayne Newton will take over her showroom for his holiday show, then it's reported he will continue there with a regular show at least until spring. After that, it's been rumored that he may take over the Clint Holmes theater next door at Harrahs, if Clint's contract isn't renewed next Oct. One show that hasn't done well at the box office is Avenue Q at Wynn. Cast members have complained that Vegas audiences don't get the inside NY humour of the show. I read one report that Wynn may buy out their contract, and has been talking with Bette Midler to headline there, but again, just a rumor. Oh, And Celine is safe till her contract expires in 07, but she's already said publicly she won't renew. She wants to take time off and have another child. With Blue Man moving to Luxor and Phantom on the way, seems all the shows are juggling for position. Zumanity just announced changes to it's performance. Hairspray will take over at Luxor where BMG left off. Scintas have yet to sign a new deal, and even rumblings of Mama Mia not getting renewed. The show competition is getting pretty fierce. Mirage is set to open a new Beatles themed Cirque show by this spring or summer. Landrys buyout of the Golden Nugget downtown includes a revamp of the property, including a 1500 seat theater. More new venues are on the way with all the construction going on. Yes, and the corporations are looking at the bottom line, and if the shows be able to maintain the draw with all the "fresh" coming in. Have to also wonder if some of these rumors are used as a bargaining chip for negotiating new contracts. brendamc Nov 17, 05, 8:37 pm I'll be sad to see it go, but the Divine Miss M would be wonderful - she is awesome in concert - what a show!
