Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Should I be asked for status when checkin?
Today, I went to the First Class checkin as a WP. I didn't even have time to take me card out they asked me if I was Diamond as if I am another dum chinese going to places they shouldn't. I'm kinda ^*@x as I don't expect to be asked when I go there because I know I have every right to do so.
Is this a case of me being paranoid? :D

Unfortunately So many people do NOT even look to see if they are in the correct checkin line  -- and choose the quickest !! that I am not surprised that the staff member asked for your status :D . IMHO it had NOTHING to do with your appearance

Always approach with your card out so the agent can see; prevents much presumption and subsequent bad taste on ones mouth.
Of course, often agents give my card back saying (with some disdain) that "your FF number is already there"; but only once they have located my booking.

Yes I am often asked when I approach the F/J counters in Singaproe, "What class am you travelling in today, sir?"
When I answer, economy... they then say, "Oh, you have to go over there...".
Well, they do have a point, because they didn't ask for my status.. but I say, it's okay, this line is empty anyway.. the agent then tries to block my entry until she sees my MPC baggage tag. Then she relents.
I guess it's a mouthful to ask: "Are you a Oneworld emerald, sapphire or Marco Polo Club member or travelling in Business or First class today?"
It is faster to just ask when class are you travelling in...

IMHO the important thing is to make sure that you LOOK as though you are absolutely confident that you are in the right place. A single hesitation, a single furtive look at another line and they will swoop to make sure that you aren't mistakenly steering towards a destiny of which you are undeserving. (and please don't mention the fact that the CSA behind the FC desk is twiddling their thumbs... this has absolutely NO bearing on the matter).

If you know me in person, maybe in the check-in agent's shoes. Maybe I don't have that rich businessman look. Sigh, so much for the Emerald. I also didn't get any greeting. O well, maybe I'm a low revenue Emerald, doesn't deserve anything.
I'm 25 and check-in at First Class. Comeon, I'm sure I'll get that dirty look again if I go to SIN next Jan!
I walked straight into F Checkin... but with my mother and her friend. CX Silver +.... errr... Ms No FFP :D .
What the checkin agent asked this morning From Cantonese to English word to word... Are you a Diamond Club member?
Ever since I have Status, I'm been increasingly paranoid with people asking me this question....
Guess even CX Diamond get this treatment, maybe I've been too with regards sensitive to this issue....

Just take your card out of your wallet and in your hand just before approaching the check-in counter.
When asked, just flash it.

I agree with daniellam. Showing your FFP card should cut any arguments short. In fact, the first time I was in HKG, I was fished out of the wrong (and long) line by an alert CX agent when she saw me joining the economy class line while holding my BA card. Priority boarding was so much better implemented than at LHR! What a pleasant start to my flight. ^ :)
As serfty has advised, I now make it a point to take out my BA or CX card before getting to the checkin counters, so the queue dragons can see it before they attempt to stop me.

Guy, just for clarity, could you tell us how you are dressed on these check-in occasions? I mean in a business suit or t-shirt and jeans? Does it make a difference?

In my opinion, you are being paranoid.
I would be willing to bet that 9 out of 10 people that approach the F check-in counter shouldn't be there. If you're supposed to be there, show your F ticket or your Diamond card. What's the big deal?

No big deal, don't like taking stuff from my wallet until I get to the counter. Otherwise, I will end dropping stuff on the ground.

I'm yet to be quizzed on whether I should be in a line or not...
Can't say it's because of my dashingly attractive looks <lol>. Nor the way I dress (although I do try and look neat on J or overseas flights particularly)
When about to check in, FF Card and passport are ready to hand across. I'm also ready to say I'm OneWorld Emerald if they posed a question like that.
One thing to keep in mind. A smart*(^ answer back to the Check-in agent might feel good, but they do have some power over your flight experience. That could include getting an upgrade denied, allowing you that extra 2Kg of luggage without charge or putting some kind of comment on the flight manifest...

why play the games and start with "the line is empty" why not be respectful of their time and just say i ham a CX DM

Just want to share a reverse experience of mine with the group. On my last CX888 a couple of weeks ago, I was with a couple of colleagues at the time and just did not feel like flexing my emerald muscles. An agent recognized me from prior trips and reminded me that I could use the F check-in. And yes, I am asian, and, no, I was not wearing a suit. I guess the previous flirts finally paid off ;) (although not well enough to get me an op-up :p ).
