Does Cathay allow a stopover on award tickets? What are the general rules, could not find them in their website.
Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Stopover on award ticketsView Full Version : Stopover on award tickets hmattila Nov 14, 05, 10:14 pm Does Cathay allow a stopover on award tickets? What are the general rules, could not find them in their website. christep Nov 14, 05, 10:53 pm Assuming you mean awards using AsiaMiles booked entirely on CX, then you can certainly have at least one stopover enroute - I recently ticketed MNL-(x)HKG-(o)SIN-(o)HKG-MNL for 35,000 miles. If it's a OneWorld Award then from the site: "You can make a maximum of five stopovers, two transfers and two open-jaws at either origin, en-route or turnaround point, subject to airline partners' terms and conditions." fratboy Nov 15, 05, 2:43 am Yes, you can. I currently booked a one way DXB-HKG-MNL in biz with the first sector travelled in August 05 and second booked for April 06. No stopover conditions other than that you should meet the entry conditions for that country if you're planning to stay a really long time. Guy Betsy Nov 15, 05, 4:00 am Bear in mind that the stopover has to 'enroute' and not as a sidetrip. Say you're travelling from LAX-BKK on CX. Your stopover is permitted only at HKG and you cannot detour to somewhere else like say TPE. Sometimes asiamiles can be very particular as to where your stopover is permitted. Case in point from personal experience.. LAX-x/HKG-BKK-SIN. Oneway award. Final destination is SIN. I wanted a stopover at BKK. Asiamiles wouldn't allow it and insisted that I can only stopover in HKG. As there is nothing set in the rules.. I had to abide by theirs. yorweb Nov 16, 05, 10:36 am This is quite an interesting thread because I have been thinking about this for a while. I would like to do LHR-HKG-KIX but return KIX-TPE-LHR (obviously via HKG). (5 days in HKG, 2 weeks in KIX, 1 week in TPE). I get feeling the feeling reading other threads that I could do LHR-HKG-KIX-HKG-LHR but I would have to get seperately a HKG-TPE return. Probably get one in HKG when I am there and fly standby??? christep Nov 16, 05, 10:55 am Yorweb, GB's experience suggests that you might have trouble persuading AsiaMiles to do that on a standard award, but you would be able to do it on a OneWorld Award if you used each of BA and QF for one of the LHR-HKG legs. In fact the AsiaMiles award booklet here: http://downloads.cathaypacific.com/mpo/Mileageearning_awardbooklet.pdf does say exolicitly: "*One-way awards are available on all airline partners and permit one stopover except on Finnair, Iberia, LanChile, Japan Airlines and Japan Asia Airways. *Round-trip ticket awards allow a maximum of two stopovers, two transfers and one open-jaw at either origin, en route or turnaround point, subject to further airline partners’ terms and conditions." So if GB was trying to redeem a one-way award then he couldn't stopover in HKG and BKK, and in your case on an AsiaMiles award you can route through TPE, but you can only have a stopover of more than 24 hours in two out of HKG, KIX, TPE, HKG. To do what you want to do I would open jaw at TPE and then get a one-way S-zone award which would just be an additional 10,000 miles in Y.
