Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Will Air NZ check baggage thru for Qantas connection?

My flight for AKL-LAX is Qantas. If I book CHC or QTN to AKL on Air NZ, will they check the luggage thru to LAX? Or will I have to reclaim it in AKL and re-check it with Qantas? Thanks :)

If I book CHC or QTN to AKL on Air NZ ...Guessing at airport codes isn't particularly accurate. QTN = San Antonjo, Chile. I suspect you mean ZQN. ;)

Two years ago, Air New Zealand had no problem with a domestic->international interline onto a QF flight for me - the route was BHE-WLG-SYD. I haven't heard of anything changing but it might be worth checking on the NZ forum (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=440).

Funny :) Sorry ;) I was actually just abbreviating and not thinking about it! I have seen the code enough for the last few weeks that it should've stuck in my mind! Thanks for the info.

Most likely not through checked unless it is on the same ticket. But contact Air NZ to confirm (www.airnewzealand.com).

If you can get bags through checked then just need to walk (10 minutes mostly but not all under cover) or take the free inter-terminal bus across to international terminal. If not, then collect bags at domestic luggage belt then walk or bus to international terminal.

Have you tried Qantas for flight from CHC or ZQN to AKL? Fares are usually similar (unless cheap fare buckets sold out), although less flights so perhaps not as convenient a schedule. Qantas would definitely be able to through check your bags and also issue the onward BP.

As long as they can see the onward flight whether on the same tkt or not they will check through as they have baggage agreements with each other, and most QF flights are contracted out to NZ staff .
