A big hello to all !

I´m about to book my next Emirates long haul to Down Under and need a bit of help deciding how to make it as enjoyable as possible ( without having to handcuff myself to a first class suite ) !

I will fly from MUC to DXB in Economy and then on to SYD or MEL in Business.(A340)

I can either choose a flight which gives me a 3 hour connection time in DXB or a flight which gives me 10 hours in DXB. In this case would Emirates offer me a free layover in Dubai ( le Meridian? ) arriving in eonomy and departing in Business ?

Also I know the Business class lounge Emirates uses in SYD is nothing to behold. Has anyone tried MEL ? ( Cathay Pacific lounge )

Thanks in advance for any help and happy flying !

Can only advise on the CX lounge in MEL - it is small and has a modest array of beverages etc - I was in the FC section a couple of years back but this is a bit of a pathetic roped off part of the same BC lounge  It will be adequate, but not for a long stay IMHO. Hope this helps.

I would take the 3 hour layover. When flying between Europe and Austrailia, I like to get there as quickly as possible. However, if you want to see a bit of Dubai, I would recommend a 24 hour layover. Both flights seem to be A330's so you don't have much of choice MUC-DXB vv

Cheers

Yes, you would be entitled to an overnight in DXB -- the Meridien is often sold out -- both times I've done this, the Meridien was not available and I was required to use the Millenium Emirates Commercial Wing, which is a dump!!! I would do the 3 hour transit.

Thankyou all for your help.
Have decided to take the 3 hour layover and get to Australia as quickly as possible.

Might even brave economy and hope for an upgrade ( although unlikely I did get lucky on my last trip. Was upgraded to business on the A340 MEL to DXB).

I guess I was in the right place at the right time :)

P.S : Sorry für alle meine schreibfehlern !!

Hi,

I don't speak German but from what I could understand via the translation program...

I would fly ex MEL or SYD as you will get the newer planes. EK is hoping to fly to Canberra if their request for 84 flights a week gets approved

Cheers
