Anyone tried the new first class on Gulf Air? Any comments on the A340 would be much appreciated too

I just flew from Bahrain to Singapore on a A300 in J class and was very disappointed in the seat. I was not able to sleep at all for the nearly 8 hour flight over night. The seat was has and only reclined partially. The meal service was good as was the service. I did not look in F to see what the seats were like. I must have been on an older plane.

I believe all A330's now have the flat bed First Class seats, which are very nice

The A340 is a joke. Avoid at all costs.

Cheers

I flew Gulf in F on the A330 earlier this year with the old style seats and I beleive these are very similar to the F seats you'll still find on the A340's. I thought they were very very comfortable, with lost of padding, acres of room and they reclined to flat - this was the first flight in ages that I had managed to get some sleep and it wasn't even a night flight. The seats also come equipped with a large screen and a personal video player in the arm.

Service was very attentive and the food was certainly the best I have ever tasted in the air, with every dish prepared to order and served to a standard I have only seen in the best restaurants. The crew lacked a little polish in areas but this was far outweighed by the comfort and food.

I don't beleive the 340's will be getting the new first and business seats as these are leased and Gulf haven't decided if they are going to replace the aircraft or refurb them (according to the csd on my flight).
