Hello, anybody used Avis with this policy? When you add your partner as a second driver you get no extra fees.
Do they ask for a code or promo number at the counter??
Any help will be apreciated.
Thanks

Domestic partners are treated the same as spouses. At most stations, this means that they are simply automatically authorized drivers (provided that they meet the criteria, usually being at least 25 years old and licensed to drive). No code, no signature. If you have a particular place in mind you might want to call Avis and ask them what the policy is for that station.

Do Hertz and other rental companies have domestic partner policies? Are these national, corporate or can each station decide???

I have seen that listed as the "official" Avis policy....it's not even necessary to list the partner as long as both have the same home address. I've wondered if this applies to Avis rentals worldwide or only in the US. I rented in London once and the agent claimed she had never heard of the policy and that they even charged extra for spouses to rent. I insisted and she took my partner's info as an additional driver but waived the extra fee. Would be nice to know if this is a worldwide policy....what avis has on their website is ambiguous.

Avis's operations outside the US can have different policies on this than the US. I'd be sure to get something in writing, to be on the safe side.

I agree, but I also think Avis should modify its advertising to say "all US rentals" rather than just "all rentals". They advertise this from time to time in the Advocate and Out and there is never any mention of any qualification at all on the statement that domestic partners drive free. At least in the UK my partner was formally listed on the contract so there wouldn't have been any problem. (He never drove the car anyway...he just preferred to yell at me about driving on the left!!)

Yes, Hertz does. My boyfriend and I did this in July.

Any extra paperwork necessary? My partner and I are legally married (Canada).

Nope. I just asked if they could add him to the rental, they printed up an agreement to sign and that was it.

Avis had one of those detachable card thingies in OUT magazine a while back. It’s called the “A Card”. Supposed to get great rates from Avis using code AWD # Q200400. The card was from a few months back, so don’t know if the 2004 in the code means anything. I assume that the “Q” might?
